Yup. If we're lucky enough to get Frazier and a another quality PF/C, you only take a 6th guy if he is an instant impact type (Wilkes obviously fits this, and yes I know he's a longshot).

You got it, He is a longshot and every article has UCLA all over him, but he has us listed in the top 5. Get him on campus for a visit and anything can happen. Some recruits want the glitz and glamour of hollywood, other want this good ol midwest lifestyle.

Funny you should post this article. I was actually going to start a new thread about the economics of AAU teams and shoe companies, in trying to figure out who has what incentive to lead a prospect to which schools. The whole topic seems really interesting and I've struggled to understand why a shoe company should give a darn about who goes where, or why an AAU coach should be too loyal to a brand such that they steer a recruit to a school of a certain brand. I get that there is support and sponsorship, but the loyalty seems to be stronger than simply corporate sponsorship. The question is why. I wanted to dig up a few more articles before starting the thread, but feel free to do so if you like with this article. I think there is a lot to discuss.

I'd be interested in such a thread. I'm sure I'd learn a lot.

Here's one that's kind of tangentially related to it. Noticed it while reading the original one above. Not sure what you wanted to call your thread, so feel free to go ahead and start it with these posts and anything you find that relates. :thumb:

You people that are getting all worked up are crazy. If anything Tilmon will be closer to put pressure on Goodwin to rethink his crazy decision. It won't be the other way around. Like has already been mentioned Tilmon was never going to SLU and Goodwin was never going to UNC, KU, etc that wanted Tilmon. The only way they play together is UofI.

If you think Tilmon made his decision before Goodwin yet only really wanted to come if his buddy did then you are off your rocker. There was no reason Tilmon couldn't wait until after Goodwin committed if that was that big of a factor in the whole thing. Bottom line is he picked the school HE wanted to go to and has been quite solid in that commitment.

Finally the move back to ESL makes some sense in that the rankings are what they are for the 17 class at this point. Exposure means very little from here on out for prospects. He doesn't really need to be at LaLu to keep himself in the Top 30 range. He effectively traded a chance at the mythical national championship of HS bball and very good academics to be closer to his family for his final year before embarking on a career that can take him anywhere. Can't blame him for wanting that one last year of being with the family.

I like this viewpoint. :shield::shield::shield:

Thanks, MTR. I started the thread, but I'm not sophisticated enough to move stuff. Feel free to copy / move things over if you like. TIA!

Again, no chance with Scruggs...

I'd be surprised if that visit actually happens.
I'll never understand why these cats string coaches along. I guess it's something with this generation. I can't relate. We did it the way it should of been done. Too thorough for that garbage.

Honestly, Gordon's list is very good news for us, provided he sticks to it. Yes, it's going to be tough sledding. But that's the deal for elite prospects. If he's a plan B or C for Self & Squid, really think we have a decent shot here.

Agreed. Also unlike most times when a recruit puts out a top 7 or 10 or whatever I think this is actually good. He is about a year out from any sort of decision so focusing on 10 schools isn't absurd if he actually only talks to and evaluates those 10. Start narrowing in sometime in Spring before AAU and make a decision late summer early fall.

Welcome to the board. I mostly live in the shadows on this board, and lurked before that, since about 2008ish. Just one bit of advice for new folks, always remember recruiting is fluid :)

Sure hope he has good weather, so the scenery is nice. Campus should be hoppin' with all the students moving back in and getting geared up for classes...

I'll never, never, never forget my first new student week, even after I'm dead! lol
