While we're rehashing, ...

It should also be noted that we were Deron's plan B, at best, and probably his plan C. Things really worked out well there!

Yes, Self missed on lots of kids. But his quote on recruiting rings as true as any I've heard: something akin to "If you're not hearing no often, you're recruiting the wrong guys."

Yeah, if I recall we were DWill's Plan C. It took Dockery going to UNC and then Jarrett Jack committing to Georgia Tech for Deron to fall into our laps. We definitely got the best out of that deal.

*Ray Felton to UNC, Dockery to Duke, & JJ to GTech 🙃

With an assist to that broken jaw. :D

Jarrett Jack was an amazing college player and a 13 year NBA veteran. I'm sure GT was happy with what they got there.

*Sean Dockery was a pretty good college player, but was stuck behind Chris Duhon and split time with Daniel Ewing as a backup for first two years.
*Mostly started as a Junior playing in 3-guard lineup (Ewing and JJ Redick.)
*Decent Senior year.
*Never made the NBA.

Strange that you wouldn't drive that one.

For anyone within a few hours, the NY2LA and Under Armour tourney's are well worth the drive. Haven't been to one in a few years, but they are fun.

UConn won it with Shabazz Napier. The other players cannot even take that team into NCAA.

Boatright, Napier and Daniels all played out of their minds that tournament. They held a good Kentucky team to 43 points or something I believe.

I will agree with you though that they might not have made the tourney without Napier. They were a bubble team until they won the big east tourney. Probably one of the worst teams to win this century. Them or 2011 Uconn. Peaked at the perfect time.

He's got no problem with Ayo. They've known each other for 10 years. And if there really is a rumor on the street that he wants to be the man I can pretty much guess who started it. His entire style of play belies that idea. He wants to win, not be a star. He'd be the man on 95% of the teams in Chicago, but he picked Simeon which is known to be team-oriented. He wouldn't have joined MIF if he wanted to be the man.
(The person I talked to about it said only the Irvins were ticked, nothing about why he left.)

:thumb: So glad that you stepped up in defense of THT. Everything about the way he is handling his recruitment speaks well about his character. People on this board need to stop responding to the rumor of the day about THT floated by unnamed sources and let the process play out! There is no factual basis yet to believe that the ILLINI will not be on his final list and then we can see if Coach Underwood can pull a repeat of the Mark Smith recruitment. At this point, it appears that it is Northwestern that is the jilted suitor since it seemed for a while like a commitment was imminent by THT from everything that was coming out of Evanston. Hopefully that backfired on them.

Anyway back on topic, other than drinking orange kool aid, why are some of you so confident with where we stand with Ayo?

Yeah, 2011 UConn was the Kemba Walker show pretty much the whole season. That was about as one-man a team as you can get. Napier was on that team but only a freshman at the time and didn't put up huge stats.

The 'Melo Syracuse team would maybe be another example of a player dominating the stats and leading his team, as I think Carmelo led in points and rebounding that season. They did have two other really good players in Gerry McNamara and Hakim Warrick, though. But it was really the Carmelo show and he was by far the #1 reason they won it all that year.

6 of 6 CB's including Jerry Meyer is probably a good start.:thumb:

I personally don't think those mean anything in a recruitment this quiet. Not saying there is no chance we land him, but many have said he is ours to lose, which seems pretty suspect to me.

If all of his CBs were to Xavier, people would be saying that the CB is "just a marketing tool".

You asked for a reason, other than orange kool aid, and got it.

Pretty much agree. We're certainly in it with Ayo, but I'd still be on the field.

Combo, I am not getting personal. I can agree that the field has a strong chance and I have seen people use percentages when it comes to say a top 5 of being 20%. Although that could be true, I think saying a straight percentage is incorrect. When a recruit has a top 5 I feel that one team is above the others say about 30% or more. That said recruiting is fluid and the top team can change daily.

Its nice to have but no guarantee.

Crystal ball had Jawun Evans to Illinois and that disappeared when he did not commit during his visit.

Crystal bad had Jordan Goodwin 6/6 to Illinois then he jumped to SLU of all places.

Lets hope this time it is right. There was suppose to be a long term relationship between Chin Coleman and Ayo's family. :chief:

Coach Cal got out coached in this one. Napier didn't make it in the NBA. Boatwright played great defense in this game. It is proof IMO that it takes more than just talent.

Two observations:

1) Excellent examples to show that we can't and shouldn't trust CB's.
2) I adore that typo.

Well, ok on the CB's.:thumb: How about Ayo with a Brian Cook jersey on at the mall.:D
