Call it new coach hype if you want, all I know is it's going to be so fun to watch. Even if we don't catch any breaks this first year, watching this team lose 90-88 beats the hell out of what we've been watching for 5+ years.
Kids are going to want to come here and play.
This style, this group of coaches....the light just turned green, and finally we can stomp on the gas pedal.:illinois:

I don't expect a class loaded with 5 star players but if we get an average or mediocre class it will be very disappointing. If the program is really going to turn the corner, 2018 will be a key class. Without quality athletes you are a bubble team and bubble teams do not attract monster classes in future. The basketball world is watching....don't blow your 2 year window

These type of posts just aggravate me. I highly doubt "The basketball world is watching" and I'm not sure you, me, or anyone else on this site should be telling our coaching staff "...don't blow your 2 year window."

The 5+ years are the Groce years but before that you had the last 7 years of Weber ball and losing 38-33 to Penn state. Hoping for the uptempo games and for SFC to be a home court advantage.

We have a staff that has and is out there, watching recruits, and being seen. The structure of the team, organization, hype , come from BU and staff. They are off to a great start, whoever decides to come in, will be based on choice. A couple of guys making the right choice for us, will set future tone. Winning will do the rest.:illinois:

I agree with Kathy on the 2 year window. Not buying it. We do need to field an exciting and competitive brand of basketball. The coaches and the system are there and the wins will come. Recruits who fit will be targeted, many will sign and will be glad they did.

Agreed! Expectations are ridiculously high. Swampy gives BU 2 years (and only 1 full recruiting year) to get guys on campus and winning huge. Expectations haven't been this high since we hired our last MBB coach.

I am also excited with BU's start. Landing Mark Smith was huge but it doesn't mean it's going to happen all the time. Style of play is huge too. BU has to be better than Groce at coaching up players but Groce isn't who he's coaching against.

I know we have to recruit better but a steady flush of 5* isn't in the cards. A well blended team with better than average talent will get us in the tourney and then a tough climb to anything higher will take time and a lot of hard work.

Love Stewart's game. Gonna be tough to get him out of the south, specifically Miss St, but Underwood and the fellas seem to be doing a great job with this kid so far.

It's interesting that the 247 Composite has UI with the #3 recruiting class for 2017. It just emphasizes how big the Mark Smith get was. tOSU is #1. Overall the B1G for 2017 recruiting is weak.

"5+"......Groce only coached for 5 years...not 5+ (PLUS) years.

These class rankings are for the B1G only.

I am sorry, you took it the wrong way. What I was trying to convey was the honeymoon period for new coaches is usually around 2 years. If the program does not start showing signs of awakening it becomes much tougher to convince the game changing athletes to make the leap.
If the team shows an exciting brand of basketball and demonstrates potential to win, the team will be fine. No matter what though people are watching and initial impressions go a long way

Hermie,
I am a realist and don't expect us to win big for several years (would love it if we did though). I too am excited about the start of this regime. I just believe in today's climate, you have a short window to prove yourself. Here is to hoping we have found the right guy to turn this ship around!

4. Talen Horton-Tucker becomes the next darling, positionless college basketball star. In the mold Draymond Green and Georges Niang, Horton-Tucker is as unique as they come with the potential to become the face of a winning high-major program.
Here are game and total stats from Oladipo. THT played on the 'Virginia' team, Finke on the 'North Carolina' team.

I see a lot of DJ Wilson/Michigan in George Conditt. 3 big factors why he will go to Illinois. 1)Instate player 2) Illinois strong recruitment 3) Fits BU system for nig man who can shoot, pass, dribble drive

THT...is that real stat sheet? Must be mistake on stat sheet because it says 22 points in 15 minutes and 4 of 5 3p. Perhaps he was practicing BUs 7 second shooting rule. Wow!

THT continues his rapid ascension and Finke continues to drop like a brick. I doubt Finke's offer is committable.
