Is Nolley a realistic option? I guess we haven't been eliminated, but I also don't see the mutual interest either.
Where exactly do you see anything?

No one knows this stuff. The scout writer predicted nolley would be in this class so there must be some interest.

Nolley has two OVs scheduled: UConn & VaTech. The good news: it appears he'll readily leave the deep south. The bad news: if we don't get one of his remaining visits, we're done. Really intrigued by the kid's game. Think he'll be an impact D1 player.

If I'm not mistaken, Nolley's had those visits scheduled for a while and one of those is not until late Sept and the other late Oct. He has an unofficial to NC State this coming week and he's taken quite a few regional unofficials. There's been virtually no news on his reaction to our offer. He's not revealing much. I don't place much weight on his connection with Curie. It's hard to know if he has any sense of how things have changed at Illinois under BU. He would be a great recruit, but unless stuff is happening below the radar, which is possible, I see him as less likely than THT or Henry.

How about a class of THT, Nolley and Henry and get the big man in the Spring??:)

I'd sign up for that, 3 nice size wings with a lot of upside, with this year's freshman class of pg/cgs Ayo is a want, not a need. You need to promise me we get a a good big in the spring though.I think we would be more likely to stop after 2 of 3 though and push for a big early, wait out Ayo if he hasn't committed & save a 4th schollie for a 2nd big when/if it actually opens up.

Ayo or bust. He may be the only person we get from this class but if we don't get Ayo, the staff failed. At the end of the day we are relying upon JFG's last class to carry us for 2 seasons and luckily for us we don't have a Sr class that will be gone immediately like in JFG's first season. Not only was the staff behind in the relationship dept, also the kids haven't seen BU's offense @ ILL and we haven't won anything in their immediate lifetime. How could some of you expect these classes of Ayo, THT, Sousa, etc. Not going to happen and shouldn't be expected. Loren Tate and Co needs a dose of realism. This season and this season's freshman and JRs are going to be the make or break for BU.

This is not as true as you make it out to be. Trent and Damonte are Groce recruits, although you could make the case Damonte was coming no matter what. You could also make the case Trent was coming as soon as he got to spend time with Dee. Half of Groce's original class left or was not retained, and the best player in the class was added by BU, after he beat out izzo, K, and cal for mark smith's services. Smith may have always been an illinois lean, but so were jawun Evans, cliff, Elijah Thomas, etc. Give Underwood credit for closing. Rounding out the five man class are matic and Ebo. 60% of our class are Brad Underwood recruits. He put his stamp on this class as best he could in a short amount of time. He is also a proven developer of players. You seem to be near the ledge and I'd like to encourage you to step back a bit for a few years.

Well we made Conditt's final 11. Any connection to that number 11?? Ayo's cut number too. Ayo wears 11 in AAU because his good friend was shot and killed on playground in 2011.

Exactly, the fact that we picked up spicy G and matic tells you BU makes it happen. True, both unproven, but G is getting alot of positive feedback, Mark Alstork is a BU get also. I count 4 that this staff grabbed, also not to make many upset or mad, opened scholarships from attrition, which is what happens in all good programs.
Ayo is number one priority, if don't have that figured out, you are out of touch. Castleton visit is in 2 weeks , hoping all goes well when he is here. IMO, we all would like a commitment soon, and any information on recruits, but this staff doesn't have leaks like we have seen in the past. Not surprised at all if we don't see a commitment till October.
Time will tell, but in last 5 months from what I see, all things are going in the right direction. Schedule in place, roster is set, the new recruits can wait until we play the season, then it might be a log jam of guys that WANT to play here. BU said we not begging anyone, and if you want to play, you have to earn your spot. :illinois: basketball is going right direction.;):thumb:

Conditt's quote about Illinois was a bit weird. Makes me think he's more interested in us than we are in him, but I could be reading it wrong

You have to give Conditt credit. He worked hard, had a great summer, and has had a flurry of offers from some very good schools, coast to coast. Reading what he wants in a school sounds almost identical to what Griffin said (except for the part about academics and wanting to major in engineering). Sounds like the basic recruiting mantra he quoted was: "We want you. We need you. You're a priority for us. You'll be on the court." Interestingly, he said the tough love came from Illinois, which, unfortunately, he didn't cite an example. He seems like a thoughtful guy, and there is no way to tell where he'll end up.

I don't believe that to be true. If we get THT, Conditt, Nolley, the class would be a success. Ayo is a very gifted player and I would love to see him in Orange and Blue but to say the staff failed if he goes elsewhere is absurd.

wouldn't say we failed, but i do think Ayo's recruitment is a barometer for what we can reasonably expect from this staff in the future. we were in on him early, have been thought of as favorites, hired a "chicago guy".. if we don't get him it will be a let down for sure. i realize the staff hasn't had a chance to "show the product" on the court yet, but by the time he will commit they will have had that chance

This makes sense to me. If I'm being recruited by Illinois, and they still have no commits for 2018, then I'm inclined to slow things down so I can have a chance to evaluate the on-court product under BU. Our recruits have a lot to gain by waiting right now, and relatively little to lose.

I agree with "letdown" vs "bust" in the referenced post by talktochuck. This board is definitely into ratings and getting big fish...which is fine for a fan board. I disagree with at least the first 3 words and last 5 words of the "TALKTOCHUCK" post:

"Ayo or bust.." and "...make or break for BU".

I think where we will "make or break" is not in getting (or not) one or two players, but our success in getting versatile players that buy in, work hard and like playing together. I think the offer board has alot of great candidates to enhance a good nucleus currently developing. The current players seem to be buying in and working hard and our trend is positive.

Care to give us a scouting report?

In technical terms, he's really good.

Seriously, made some great passes, plays defense, gets any where he wants to with the ball in his hands. Finishes at the rim.

Team made all their runs with him in the game. He's a winner.

Ugly jump shot. If he could shoot, he would be out of our league...

His shot is ugly but it goes in. He is similar to lonzo ball. He excels at all aspects of the game except shooting.

Will be curious to see if his college coach tries to change it or just lets him go. It is effective. It comes out so low you'd be afraid he'd get blocked a lot, but he is tall and it's a quick release.

We have our team and schedule, sent invites to the next in line, you want to come play with our basketball, sign up and get ready to work. You got somewhere else to be, please move on and make room for someone who wants to be with a winner.
Be very surprised if we have any commits from our targets soon . Unfortunately IMO, I think Conditt's offer is not commitable till Castleton, makes his choice. TBH, it won't hurt a bit if we don't get a commitment till after signing day. March Madness is a long time away.;)
