Because Maryland is such a powerhouse? Yes, they have been good recently but they are the farthest thing from what you could gauge as a "good pickup". People could have said that about the Illini several years ago. With that being said... I would be thrilled with Conditt

Ok maybe a slight overreaction, but as others pointed out, they have many quality bigs committed/on the team. To give an offer to a commodity as little known as Conditt is huge.

That offer is an affirmation that Conditt's potential is very high. Think many here knew that, but wow! Good for the kid.

^ this is what I was trying to say so +1 for articulating it better :)

I'm far less interested in what this says about Conditt as what it says about Maryland. They probably lead for two top 50 big men.

They can have Conditt we'll take DeSousa

They're targeting DeSousa and Moses Brown. Really makes you wonder why they needed to offer Conditt?

Jalen Smith is a commitment they have already, makes you wonder about DeSousa, with this offer. Conditt would be way down on bench, but it is a good offer for him.
Smith is a George Gervin like player. Need a bit muscle but long and good shot.

Part of the issue with ZG was feeling like he was a priority. The KU offer is definitely not a real offer, and he would be a plan C guy there.

It is too early for people to be worked up over this class. If we miss on Ayo, then we can start worrying. If guys like Castleton and Conditt go elsewhere then it's time to worry. Right now we are in good position with Ayo, Castleton and Conditt. We have a shot with De Sousa. We have a shot with wings like Landers Nolley.

Looks like we didn't make the top five for Tamell Pearson or RJ Barrett

Not entirely surprising. Our offer to Pearson was mainly just a favor to the Irvins to try to boost his stock.

Anyone know who would be considered our "fastest risers" of our recruits still available (that we have offered)?

If you mean guys who have really raised their profile, that would be Conditt. We were his first high major offer and since then he has collected a bunch of other high major offers.

THT has also blown up a lot and gotten a ton of interest from bigtime programs.

Hard for a guy like Ayo to rise too much given where he is now.

Yah, I was really banking on Barrett! lol

WRT Pearson, that is very good news. We aren't going to take him in a package deal w/Ayo. Wish the kid all the best.

Wow, really surprised we did not make the cut with Pearson. Staff must feel really confident they can land at least 2 of Sow, Conditt, and Castleton.

Clearly Pearson wants to get PT where he goes.

Wow 2nd big surprise this week not making the cut with Griffin and Pearson.

so who are our primary targets
Ayo, Castleton/Conditt, wing (which one?) I know some will say THT but there might be a surprise or long shot here.

Conditt offer by Maryland makes me stop and say hmmm. maybe they aren't as solid with their primary targets.....

No mention of Castleton, eh?

Last summer Castleton had 1 offer. He now has 15+ including Xavier, Purdue, Florida State and is now ranked #70 on Scout.

Maybe Pearson knows Ayo isn't coming, so he's turned his attention elsewhere. Maybe Zion saw no structure or organization in Underwood's plan for him. Maybe Conditt is excited by Maryland, because he wasn't ever very psyched to come to Illinois? Maybe THT is back as a possibility BECAUSE Ayo isn't coming and now he doesn't have to worry about playing with him. Maybe we'll end up with Drew Peterson or something and that's it.

I am a worrier by nature and I am getting slightly concerned. I really was hoping that by now, we had a low 4 star or high 3 star locked up and would be waiting on Ayo. Hope my worrying is needless!

Could we lose every one of our top recruits? Absolutely. It definitely happens. I think it's fair to say all of our recruits are still sorting through their options. The chips are on the table. I think BU has a winning hand.

We need less worrying, BU will pull through for us faithful fans!:chief:

We need less worrying, JFG will pull through for us faithful fans!

Third times a charm? ;)

One thing I'm willing to bet on is that the September recruiting thread will be a doozy.

Nothing will ever match the DJax frenzy. That was crazy!! OV's from 4 top 40 recruits(ET, JE, JB and JCL) during 3 weekends in a row was crazy too!!

So do we KNOW the Pearson offer was just to do a favor for the Irvins and Pearson?mDo we know it was NOT part of a package deal to get Ayo?

I realize he was not coming here without Ayo, so of course it can be a concern he has eliminated us wrt Ayo coming here.

I am not panicking, but this is a slight concern for me, and no I do not mean losing Pearson specifically.

If we don't land Ayo, will we look back on this day and say we should have seen the foreshadowing?
