Thanks for clarifying. much easier to follow.

I have bolded a few things, are these things you know as fact, or are they speculation? not trying to dig at your info, but i just want to know if you know that or just are guessing. Thanks again!

Your bolded part says "my guess" a couple of times

Interesting to see the message board angst spilling over into mainstream media.

I didnt realize that we are behind most B10 peers in getting 2018 commitments. I dont remember getting many recruits in the last few years by the end of summer either ( maybe trent last year?)

Definitely behind due to the turnover, but not something to worry too much about yet. There will be a lot of commitments in Sept/Oct/Nov leading up to the early signing period (Nov 8-15).

The most logical explanation is this kid was looking to a place he would be needed. He all but said that flat out with his recount of the creepy Iowa state comment.

Underwood likely said we're looking at a couple of guys at this position, which he didn't like, then he looked at our roster and said they have a lot of wings. There is probably a better place for me.

Talen Horton-Tucker has been and continues to be my top choice for wing recruits. That kid just knows how to play. I think if he sheds that baby fat he could have a Deronesque improvement to his game.

As long as he doesn't have to brake his jaw to accomplish it!

Last year at this time we had Williams, Pickett and Tilmon. Trent didn't sign until the fall.

Put me down for thinking this was a weird title for an article.

I would like to have landed 1-2 players by now, but I'm confident BU and staff will land some good players. I also think that recruiting success will come with players seeing his system and W/L. After landing Mark Smith, Mark Alstork, Ebogi?, and Mattic in a short time and late in the recruiting cycle I think he will do well from now through May of next year.

We know, at least to some degree, that what happens at Kansas could impact who we sign. Yesterday, Rival's Eric Bossi made the following observation about KU which was quoted in the Kansas City Star:

“The key is a big 2018 class where Kansas is looking to sign as many as six players. Point guards Devon Dotson, Immanuel Quickley and Ayo Dosunmu, combo guard Quentin Grimes, shooting guard Romeo Langford, forward Zion Williamson and bigs Emmitt Williams, Moses Brown and David McCormack are just few of their many high-profile targets,” Bossi wrote.

It's a crowded field. Hopefully that works to our benefit with Ayo. If Griffin or THT end up at Kansas, it means the bottom fell out for Self. Ultimately, to be successful, we have to win some recruiting battles with Self and Howard. By the way, Dotson will be at KU Aug 25-27. Let's hope he commits.

THT is a real possibility all of a sudden, a few weeks ago he was for sure not coming, ILL are in a WAY better place than they were a few weeks ago.

I think the staff really wants to get a verbal from Castleton before he would head to Xavier, I think that they are the biggest competition for him until Florida offers.

Also hearing that Ignas may be looking to come down for a visit, and has recently been talking to the staff a lot. Specifically Antigua.

Sow has also been talking to staff really recently and they are really trying to get him down to campus here soon.

I think the final class would look something like this Ayo, Pearson, Castleton, and either THT, Iggy, Archie, or Finke.

What has happened in the last few weeks with THT in regards to ILL?

My guess would be, the summer circuit is over. THT getting away from the summer agents and back with Robert Smith is a good thing.

The staff has never waivered from making THT a top priority. They followed him everywhere. If I remember correctly, Underwood didn't watch Zion Griffin during his big weekend because he was watching THT.

THT had gotten more offers, that's all that I have seen, KU and MSU, both of which are probably non-committable. That being said I too think we are still in the running.IMO ;)

After Ayo, THT is my number 2 choice. It would disprove the Simeon butthurt over Tate, Nunn, and DJW.
Ayo is a must.

Why would Simeon be upset? we gave a non big ten calibre player 4 years a degree and occasionally a starting position.

Nunn committed domestic violence, not much we could do.

Williams, it always stinks when guys transfer but he didn't want to work. I find it hard to believe that just started when he got to Champaign, Smith knows.

What did Loren say that was so out-of-bounds? Looked like he was simply laying out what's already happened. It's not pretty right now. I appreciate articles like that--not all smiles and sunshine.

It is pretty early in the cycle for a beat writer to be so negative in the slant of the article. If October rolls around and the situation is the same sure there is a problem. I haven't seen a single thing to indicate that there is a problem with the '18 class right now. This isn't an Archie in IU situation where all of the recruits for the new school know him and his staff from the old school. BU and staff are making relationships, doing evals, and going through the process.

I can understand message board people panicking because they are used to the positive leaks of the previous staff and the general malaise of summer but a writer should be better than that. Write something with actual content rather than speculation and angst.

DJW was in Rob Smith's doghouse more than most kids in recent memory. Doubt there will be hard feeling between UI and Simeon as long as the staff maintains the relationship appropriately.
