I believe Illinois will have a hard time getting Ayo. It's not gonna be easy.

I would like to see Underwood and his staff take a look at Beane out of Carbondale. He is one of the state's top prospects and is about the same height as Ayo. Comes from a solid basketball family, plus his older brother was a great player for the Salukis. I would offer Beane and go from there.

He committed to SIU a couple weeks ago.

I agree Landers Nolley would be a great recruit, but, like Nate Hinton, he's got a lot of high-level offers from regional schools. We may not get a commitment within the next several weeks, but at least we should see the official visit schedules start coming out. Who knows? Maybe we'll get some surprise visits. I'd love to get a visit from Ngumezi or Jaxson Hayes.

Agreed Nolley is a slim chance with other overtures, but he does have connections to Illinois I believe, so slim it is, but it is a chance.:chief:

Thanks for the link. Perhaps Griffin sees his path to playing more than spot minutes is blocked by Kipper for 2 years and that was enough to sour him on us.

Kipper has absolutely nothing to do with why Illinois didn't make his final 4.

Griffin is a part the past, if he didn't wanna be a part of this team, that is his choice and I wish him nothing but the best.

Staff knows their priorities, and is working on getting the job done.

Hearing Ayo, Pearson, Castleton/Conditt, and there are quite a few names being thrown around right now for the 4th spot.

That 4th spot will be quite interesting. I hope to be able to make this '18 class a 4 man class, and I think that the staff will. Some names that I am currently hearing that the staff is going after hard are Iggy, THT, Landers Nolley, and Kaden Archie.

A lot of people think that Kaden Archie is Texas bound, but just look at their recent commits. Don't be so sure, I said this weeks ago, and I will say it again I think that ILL is a real dark horse with Archie. Heard ILL and LSU have been really involved with him.

Archie would be a real nice surprise

Interesting. I'm glad we're going after Archie, as well as Landers and Iggy. I'm sure there's a lot going on we don't hear about. I don't have high hopes for any of them, so I won't be disappointed if they commit elsewhere. THT is different. I've never given up hope on him because the staff has been consistent in making him a priority. I'm not too worried if we don't fill all of our offers for 2018 this fall--we'll get a second chance in the spring. Arguably, since we only lose Alstork next year, the 2018 recruiting class is less important than the 2019 class.

From a purely positional standpoint, regarding the 2018 class, I think that we really need at least one big. Our guards/wings are in good shape. Now, I would welcome any of the names mentioned at any position, because we need talented basketball players and these gentlemen appear to qualify. Always good to add more talent!

Griffin timetable:

7/30-Illini offer
8/4- UV visit to C/U
8/14--Illini not in final 4

Strange timetable at that!!

Why is that strange? It appears he got the offer, visited and presumably did not like it. Kids do that all the time, even non-athletes and with every school.

Sorry, forgot to add that ZG tweeted on 8/4--"Shoutout to Coach Underwood and Coaching Staff at Illinois for a great visit."
I'm not sure where you're getting "he did not like it."

Right. When you take that quote, his quote about being an Illini fan and the fact that we were not late with our offer (WRT P5 schools), something does not compute. My lack of immediate playing time notion was shot down, so maybe Giffin got the sense that he was a contingency and that was enough.

Illinipuck99 on 5 August:
" I heard from a pretty good source that Zion felt his visit to Iowa State was more impressive than his Illinois one."

Regardless, time to move on to next opportunity.

Joel, you're a good researcher. Do some work on ZG's AAU coach. I'll give you a start, his name is Quintin Garrison and he's an Illini grad of '05 with a degree in finance. OK?

That was the statement, sounds like it came from a good source. Yes , back to the active recruits. ;)

Chin Coleman might as well take up a second job driving the school bus at Morgan Park everyday. Underwood might as well get a job in the lunchroom. I will be seeing a lot of those guys this year. Boy ol boy is Simeon vs Morgan Park gonna be a war this year. Can't wait!
