Griffin is definitely an interesting prospect, but I'm not worried about basketball recruiting at all. I haven't been able to say that in a long time.

Let's all take a minute to remember our current incoming class and not be so worried about not getting Griffin. We'll be fine.

Better than fine.

With Griffin out of the picture, here's how I see the priorities:

1. Ayo: We want to see Kansas get Devon Dotson.
2. Castleton: We want the door to remained closed for a 2018 offer from Florida.
3. THT or Henry: Our chances increase if one of those guys selects MSU.
4. Conditt: We need to make him feel he fits in and can have a great career.
5. Sow, Ngumezi, Finke: keep recruiting

I'm assuming Nate Hinton and De Sousa are longshots.

Two scenarios to save 1 scholarship until spring:

1. We get only one of Ayo, Castleton, THT, or Henry.

2. We don't get Ayo, THT or Henry but get two bigs.

you scenario #1 consumes 1 scholarship and your scenario 2 consumes 2 scholarships...perhaps I'm misreading it.

Like the assessment, these are primarily goals we are looking at, unfortunately we have little control over any. Ayo is #1 Target , Castleton#2, THT#3, IMO this way staff is active in recruiting. Outside sources in play , always leave you uncomfortable, but it is what it is. Any of these things happen, will go a long way to seeing commits happen.
Castleton visit only thing set in stone ATM, rest play out, as other things happen. So here we go again.......

Good point. I was assuming in scenario 1 we get one more player, but I failed to write it down. The question is if we get Castleton, but not Ayo, THT, or Henry, and not a second big, do we go after Finke or hold on to two rides?

Don't forget Nolley, who would really make me forget Zion in a heartbeat.

Kansas is in the luxury position to be able to get in on a recruit whenever they want

I understand that, but I don't know that I would put Kansas and more early playing time in the same sentence unless the player is a McDAA

So. Are we the favorites for any of these recruits? The more I read about Ayo, the more I'm not so sure.

Needless to say, it would be nice to have some inside info as to why Griffin spurned us. Not interested in speculation, thanks.

There is no suspense. If Marvin Bagley wants to be (he does) he will be 2017 class. Duke has recruited him for 17 for extended time.

Bagley picked Duke. This article provides a good summary of NCAA clearance process...including for Bagley. Not a done deal that he's qualified for 17. I've never heard of the NCAA 10 day rule for eligibility reviews...seemed like it was 10 months for Lovett.

I agree Landers Nolley would be a great recruit, but, like Nate Hinton, he's got a lot of high-level offers from regional schools. We may not get a commitment within the next several weeks, but at least we should see the official visit schedules start coming out. Who knows? Maybe we'll get some surprise visits. I'd love to get a visit from Ngumezi or Jaxson Hayes.

I feel better about Ayo than any other recruit, largely due to the relationships he has with our staff and how he would fit into BU's system, which is a strong selling point. We are favorably positioned in his list of schools, and I think we are still the leader. However, when it comes to recruiting high school basketball players, my corollary to "recruiting is fluid" is that "optimism is fragile."

My opinion, and only my opinion based on what I've read and the (little) I've heard is not really. Ayo maybe but Xavier is right there and I suspect he's taking so long because he wants to see how Kansas shakes out with the guards they're going after (Dotson, Quickley, Grimes, Langford). Castleton maybe (unless Florida offers), Conditt maybe. I dearly wish we were leading for THT but don't think so. The rest are long shots imho.
I still dream of Verge and Horton-Tucker in O&B in two years so definitely take my "take" with a grain of salt.

Not sure if you've read Henricksen's article, but here's what Griffin said about his list:

“I talked with my mom and family to see what they thought was best, but I also just thought of where I can see myself over the next several years,” says Griffin. “The relationship with the coaching staff was the biggest thing. When I leave my mom, the coaches become almost like a parent to you, so that was important to me. And I want to make an impact wherever I go.”

Griffin timetable:

7/30-Illini offer
8/4- UV visit to C/U
8/14--Illini not in final 4

Strange timetable at that!!

I largely agree. For me, "favorite" doesn't necessarily mean "likely"--just best positioned. For Ayo, at the moment, I wouldn't trade positions with Xavier. I'm not sure how Ayo feels about Kansas, but you can never count them out. They could end up with Ayo and Griffin and we might struggle to get Conditt and Finke. Anyone remember the fall of 2007? We lost one recruit after another.

Think this pretty much says it all, he gave us as much time as we have him, sounds like parents pretty involved there.
IMO, search for a good 6'6-6'8" forward continue , not hearing a lot from staff, what we read is all we can go on. Got many lines in the water, just no bites .:(

I believe Illinois will have a hard time getting Ayo. It's not gonna be easy.

I would like to see Underwood and his staff take a look at Beane out of Carbondale. He is one of the state's top prospects and is about the same height as Ayo. Comes from a solid basketball family, plus his older brother was a great player for the Salukis. I would offer Beane and go from there.
