I agree but I want malcolm to win the tourney..... I'm conflicted

Agreed. I would like to see Malcolm and Tracy go out with a win, not a loss. Everything else will take care of itself.

Tilmon signed a NLI. It's not as simple as him just announcing that he is going to Mizzou. He has to be released, and if the staff feels Mizzou was tampering with signed recruits they could always block him from signing there.

Pretty sure that you can only block when it's a transfer.

Players come and go if Tilmon wants to leave (probably mizzou) it sucks but he should be granted his release. The important thing to remember is that Mark Smith is by far and away the more important recruit. At the end of the day I think we all want the same thing, to watch winning basketball. The athletic department needs to get it done if they don't they can look for employment elsewhere.

Have to disagree. Smith would be a great get but we need bigs.

It's not like athletic bigs aren't great to have, but my god, if there was ever a recruit with a game that was made to be maximized in this offense, it's Mark Smith.

I'll eat crow if I'm wrong, but LOL at MU - a literal dumpster fire - being discussed as this mighty new player because they got a coach we didn't even want. I'll guess the entire class stays. :)

You're 100% percent right that we need bigs but more than anything we need difference makers we haven't had any in 12 years.
p.s. Hooping34 if you're Mark Smith please come to Illinois we need you and we will appreciate a 1,000 times more than any of the other fanbases of the schools you are considering

That is NOT true. Fact is you don't even need to let a player out of LOI, but it would not be right. So far, Washington has not let their recruits out of the LOI, & will not, until they meet with their new coach, Hopkins.
NCAA National Letter of Intent: Coaching changes, Provision 11: "You are signing NLI and athletic aid agreement with the University, not the coach. If the coach leaves, you are still required to go to that school for at least one year. There are opportunities for releases but they are generally not granted. Make sure you want to attend that school and not just play for that coach."

We all know that would a coach leaves, schools usually grant a release, but a school is not required to.

Reading more, if a player leaves without a release, he will be treated as a transfer, have to sit out a year, and will lose a year of eligibility.

Furthermore, a school may first lift the recruiting ban, but may wait to grant a full release until the school finds out where the athlete will enroll. (Thus if a student wants a full release without penalty , he would have to pick a school which the school he signed a LOI allows).

Players that come to Illinois and help bring this program back from the dead will become immortal. No other university can offer this. You can travel the ends of the earth and find Illinois alumni wherever you go.

As a casual observer in the recruiting space, it seems like we often went up against certain schools for recruits during the Groce era. Some of that is geographic, some of that is competition for outstanding talent, but some of it I think was driven by the system we ran. For example, it always seemed odd to me that we found ourselves competing against Oregon for recruits. I don't know how much of that was skill set or system driven, but I am curious if our new system under BU will find us pitted against new schools for recruits. What do you guys think? What skills will we be looking for, and who do you think will be added to our list of recruiting nemeses?

And to think this whole time that we could have been talking about how we recruit to our new system...

Might still find us competing with Oregon. They run Spread about 50% of their half court possessions. (Or 100% when they gashed us at the uc)

Unless Missouri has committed a flurry of recruiting violations, then there's no chance of Tilmon going to Missouri until Walker officially would be hired there. You think some kid is gonna sign with a new school after not even having a conversation with the head coach?

I'm not saying he has signed. I'm saying that he will ask for his release and sign with Missouri. Hopefully something changes but as of now that is the plan.

That is the plan despite not having an indication Walker is going there? OK.... he literally has no connection to Martin or anyone he may put on staff most likely unless its Walker. I don't see Walker making that move and not much has suggested it really. Hard to believe Tilmon would have his mind set on that situation when he could go to UNC or KU if he wanted. Two ways he leaves: he follows Walker somewhere or he goes to a better program. Mizzou fits neither unless they miraculously pull in Walker.

100% untrue IF Walker stays with Illinois.

Now if Walker does not stay at Illinois, then its anybodys guess where Tilmon goes.

You guys have ran off a lot of people with information from this board. I will also stop posting what I hear. Sorry to the regular people on here who can actually accept bad news. One more thing, do we really want a kid who has been such a pain before even stepping foot on campus?

It's not about good or bad news - those guys are dependent on a funding model that asks a certain level of discretion of the people who come by their information. That's why you'll frequently see people on this board request others to DM them if they'd like to get more information.

It's imperfect, sure, but I would rather err on the side that will allow more people to cover Illini sports.

This is the kind of crap statements that would keep a recruit from coming to a program.

Tilmon hasn't said one negative thing about Illinois. He committed here and then had the coach he wanted to play for get fired. All the angst on this forum is from us not him.
