Da'Monte Williams latest tweet says this "50/50". That's it. Hope he is going to be an Illini!

If he's talking about his commitment, then that's bad news. Course, he might be talking about something totally different.

I hope to hear of a BU trip to Peoria to visit Monte and lock him in soon. Peoria Pipeline/Downstate recruiting will be key in making this system work, IMO.

I'm sticking with Thunderwood, but I'm also fine with UIUCMHBBCBCU (WLOSUBTWDAWNPHBATDNVTRSAALBAPFS). You guys can probably translate that easily, but it means: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Men's Head Basketball Coach Brad Cox Underwood (who left Oklahoma State University because they were dumb and would not pay him because apparently they do not value their revenue sports at a level befitting a Power Five school). That's about what it looks like, right Philo?
I like it. Rolls off the tongue.

It'd be interesting to see what options Da'Monte would have if he asked out of his NLI. Most schools stopped recruiting him because it was widely assumed he'd commit to Illinois, and he missed most of his senior season with a serious injury.

Not that it means much, but Mark Smith just followed Bwood on twitter.

It does not seem entirely impossible to me that Da'Monte is a little salty that Tilmon is getting all the "will he or won't he" attention.

He's really fallen off in terms of attention this entire year, given how well TF and even JP played, even before the Tilmon stuff started back up. I think this is entirely possible, esp given his situation. Being injured your senior year after being a legacy commit. Cant imagine many high major schools saw him as a possibility to jump ship. If he does leave it wont be for a high major school.

I think it's way more likely to do with the fact that the coach he committed to was just fired, and has nothing to do with attention seeking.

Fairly certain he's talking about his commitment. A previous tweet just included a confused emoji while quoting him in an Illini jersey.

Guessing he's annoyed by the situation and wants to feel the love from the new staff. Confident we can hang on to him, but the staff can't take any shortcuts here.

Why isn't DaMonte mentioned in these posts. He was the highest ranked guard at one time. Is it because it is assumed he will be red shirted due to his injury or because you think the others are better? Not trying to voice opinion, just asking.

I mentioned D Williams and Jordan. I should have specified which D Williams I was referring to. I was talking about the guard rotation. He is in the mix. But to tell you the truth I was less than impressed the few times I saw DaMonte play. Seemed very passive on the court. It is hard to judge a 17 year old too harshly, but there was a lot left to the imagination.

I also think that Frazier is better(definitely in year one.) I hope that he comes back strong though.

Truth to this, but he was starting to turn some of that around in the early high school season. Which is why the injury was doubly debilitating.

Da'Monte is suffering from 'out of sight, out of mind' right now. I don't think there's any doubt that he would have been a top candidate for State POY had he been healthy. Couple that with the fact that he's the son of an Illini legend, and I think most just assume he'll stay on. The fact is though that he had a good relationship with Groce, so there's work left to do there.

Da'Monte also hasn't taken Illinois commit out of his bio, or changed his pin tweet from his commitment announcement, so take that for what its worth.

Definitely. Any injury is bad, but its worse when the player is just starting to do better. Just when the light bulb is coming on he gets hurt. Just terrible. But we will hope he stays committed and keeps that arrow pointing up.

I can understand your post especially if you saw him at state last season. However, I saw him 3-4 times right before that in both regular season and playoffs and he was fantastic and best player on the court each game. If you want to see his ceiling watch the YouTube highlights of his massive game at Pontiac. Oh, and if there is one thing I believe about Brad Underwood is he will get his players to bring the intensity which is all Damonte needs to do regularly to reach his massive potential.

If he comes back 100% healthy he will be the most athletic player on the team and with talent to boot.

There is nobody in this class I would like to see back out and certainly includes Damonte.

Yes, noticed that as well. I think a few recruits are wavering/looking at options or whatever you want to call it but there have been no overt signs that anybody has decided to leave. Can anyone blame some of these guys right now? This is a big decision and hopefully Underwood can convince them staying is their best option for now and their futures.

The next few days will be very big for Underwood and his roster for next season. If he plays it right this turnaround could be very quick.
