Granted, I generally have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to recruiting, and I've never had access to "inside information". But I have assumed that Ramey would end up at Mizzou from the very beginning. Even when the so-called insiders were saying "no way".

It's too perfect of a fit. They have talented bigs but no guards. Cuonzo is a great recruiter. He's from the STL area. It just seems to make sense.

Ramey to Illinois, however, never made sense to me.

Exactly right. It only made sense if we have more transfers out. Hopefully we don't.

especially if Black does not return.

I have seen this "if black does not return" quote a few places... Is it just me or don't we already know that he is definitely NOT returning? I'm positive that i've read and heard that he has already signed with an agent, therefore cannot return to college. Not to mention - both he and Coach U gave statements about him not returning and pursuing a professional basketball career.

Go Illini :chief:

Hard to make that case now when we just had our worst season in the last 20+ years and they made the tournament this year without Porter Jr. and with very few scholarship players. Cuonzo has always recruited well, that will not likely change much, he will always recruit well. The key will be UI improving recruiting, independent of what Cuonzo does.

I agree, he’s an amazing recruiter, especially of assistant coaches. Hiring the top player in the country’s dad should have worked out better for them, but karma is a be-atch. Our future depends far more upon what BU and staff can do, much more than CM’s recruiting and coaching ability. However, I continue to believe Mizzou’s last 2 losses prove my point.

Manuel didn't visit, so no chance.

Anyone else listening to the Jeremy Werner Show? Sure sounds like the staff is recruiting the PG position hard, with backups to Ramey. I can't see how this makes sense unless Tejon is leaning heavily to transfer.

If thats true, then it seems Tejon leaving would be the case.

Obviously Ayo can play PG, but I think we see a lot of Trent and Ayo together next year. Right now, their backups are Damonte, Tejon, and AJ. Heck even if none of those guys leave, adding another true PG wouldn''t hurt, as AJ is more of a 3 at this point.

Would still like Hinson/Jones and a 5th year big if we stick with only 2 schollys open. Not sure Ebo can take a big enough leap, Kane seems raw as well and we know how Finke is at the 5.

Not a huge fan of taking grad transfers, but this seems like perfect spot for one. Similar to when Thorne (or Mclaurin) came in. Eat up 20ish minutes rebounding/defending, allow the younger guys to grow without pressure of needing them on the court constantly.

hmm, I am surprised this tidbit went by with no mention, especially considering the knowledgeable poster who mentioned it.

No real tidbit, the current state is that Black "intends" to hire an agent, so until he does, there is the possibility of withdrawing at a later time, whether that happens or not.

They were involved but when OA brought Brad to see him against elite competition, they liked Giorgi much better.

Omer Yurtseven transferring from NC State. Picking him up would solve a lot of our deficiencies.

The Hinson reclassifying is more complicated than one would think. Lots of NCAA by laws to follow. Just not as easy as sending a tweet that one is reclassifying.

Dang. Was hoping Tejon was going to stay. Love how he runs the team and finishes at the rim. Just wish he could shoot (field goals and free throws).

Wasn’t he interested in testing the nba?

He still is, he has the option to test the waters and if he decides to not enter the NBA draft, or declare and withdraw, he can also transfer or go pro in Europe. This assumes he does not hire an agent during the process. He has Turkish citizenship and used to play for the junior team of one of the top teams in Euroleague, Fenerbahce.

I think he is a sophomore, I have not checked, but I believe he still has to sit out if he transfers.

This should be interesting if Illinois is in as good of shape with Hinson as some are hinting they are. If that's the case, you'd think the staff would hold off on Georgi's commitment until they know Hinson's decision.

And yes, I think Illinois is out with Manuel (and likely wasn't ever really all that involved).
I don't see why we could not take both Hinson and Georgi. Agreed that we were probably never really in it with Manuel.

Why wouldn't we take both? They seem to play different positions and have largely different skill sets.

At this point I'm leaving it here:

Your opinion is he is not a 4. That's fine, it's yours.

My opinion, along with a couple other posters, and Hinsons opinion of himself(via Ked's tweet) is that he can be. And that's fine because it's ours.

I'm sure everyone in the background will appreciate this settlement.

I agree with you. Hinson is big enough to defend the majority of 4s.
