It has nothing to do with where players start or the variations of spread motion, whether that is 4-4 or 3-2 spread motion. It has to do with the skill-set of the players and none of Kipper, Hinson, or Jones have that skillset. Frontcourt was a HUGE problem, and playing wings and SFs in the frontcourt (by necessity) created a huge disadvantage. At the end, the results of the season speak for themselves. Frontcourt is a huge recruiting need.

We can go over the same argument again, that we can play our SFs on the frontcourt, but results are already in. Season ended, you can see how good we did.

Hinson can guard a post player, Jones can't IMO.

That depends on how cold it is. Maybe it is room temperature.

I , also hope that MS does well in his next stop...I also agree that he was one of the worst defender's that I can remember....He is very tight in his hip movement and that usually meant he was a step behind in his reaction to defensive positioning....he always seemed to have a deer in the headlights look when he was in and didn't display the play of an experienced defender which ,IMHO , detracted from his offensive abilities....

In high school he could bull rush the rim and usually get his shot off with a foul called, but repeatedly got stuffed at the collegiate level...His confidence level shrank as the season progressed and instead of fighting thru it he decided to transfer out...

So be it...it's his choice....good luck....but he didnt
give me any hope that he would be a major contributor in the near future....

Is it?

Given his "get back to the days of Dee, Deron" etc. commitment and how happy he looked putting on the hat, have a hard time believing he gave up so quickly.

I hear what you are saying and who knows if the parents are dictating this , but he was lost in the shuffle and didn't stick it out....hard to feel sorry for someone who gave up after 1 year, no matter who is behind it...

if you think Hinson can the Jones can. Jones plays more 4 then anything on his team. He isnt as little as some of those clips make him look. He is very similar to what Black was coming out of HS

Did Liddell play for the Eagles or Brad Beal Elite? And what kind of talent will he be playing with? I know they had a great roster last year so wasn’t sure if they will be able to reload.

Same exact team iirc, believe the Eagles turned into Brad Beal Elite.

So uh hypothetical time from me, but if we somehow land Ramey and Caroline. Do we roll out a starting lineup with no guys over 6’7? Would love to see that in motion but in my opinion would be a very risky play in the Big.

I have no clue if TJL is transferring or not, and I'll wait to hear it from an authoritative source.

But yeah.....him sporting Illini gear doesn't really mean much. I mean, he's currently attending the school, right? And has played two years for the Illini. I imagine that if he's looking to move on, it's not because he hates Illinois, but because he believes he'd be a better fit someplace else. These things aren't always personal.

Mark Smith is currently attending the school, but I doubt that he is sporting Illini gear. :)

I'm with you, things aren't always personal and I'll wait until an official announcement of a transfer happens.

I mean... In 2014 Jordan Caroline was a 0 star, unranked recruit... It would be really really weird if Illinois accepted that sort of offer.

He's 6'6" so he's going to be matched up against forwards in high school but that doesn't mean he's a 4. He's a completely different player than Leron despite being the same height. Leron also had about 20 more pounds on him than Jones as a senior..

Hinson is a wide body. Harbaugh offered him a scholarship for FB when Hinson was in the 8th grade.

Well, we just accepted two of those in Griffin and Kane...
I read where Kane was considered a "3 star"...not that it really matters.

On a "recruit development" note...we have to speed up teaching "the system" for all of these new guys. It was painfully slow system transition this season. Offense seemed to click as best it could at the very end but jeesh...there has got to be a way speed up the teaching/ learning process. I think we need to get Tyler and other returnees teaching with informal scrimmages in the summer or something similar.

I think you are right, but I also think this is likely now that some of the players have a year under their belt.

Oh, sorry, this really belongs in the future seasons thread, not recruiting.

If that is factual then why are they waiting to announce it? What's the purpose of waiting from thier perspective? I would think if they know that's what they are doing then they would announce it asap. The longer they wait others schollys are being filled in other landing spots. I could be wrong but if they know they are transferring then why wait to announce?

I imagine someone will transfer I just don't understand why they are waiting unless it's that they may stay if we don't land a someone that will likely take thier spot in the rotation.

I don’t have any inside knowledge on whether Tejon/Matic might transfer, but it could be a situation of the coaches trying to recruit better players (Giorgi/Ramey) and then creaning them if we can upgrade. I will say simply from all the players the staff is going after despite only 2 open scholarships, I’d expect at least one more transfer.
