Man, the doomsayers are just as out there as the Kool-Aid drunks. We've had a decade of moving downhill, it wasn't ever going to change immediately. For the first time in a long time, I'm enjoying the process. I have no way of knowing if it will translate into winning, but right now it's pretty dang interesting.

+1

If things break the right way, we should be better. Potentially, a lot better. And I don't think the player gets are far fetched. The next few weeks are going to be very interesting.

The moves were made for a rebuild.. the only major piece that we lost that could have moved the needle forward was Leron. Everyone else was replaceable and wouldn't be hard to upgrade.

I agree 100 percent, this is actually a blessing and the only way we were going to get better.

I wouldn't put Jones as a for sure.
I typically don't get involved in claiming "insider" stuff, but did get some info immediately after his visit that has played out as I was told it would. Could be wrong. Recuiiting is......well, you know.

Can someone lay out Giorgi’s game?

Style of play is similar to Kerem Kanter of Xavier. Don't expect an immediate impact but he could grow into a valuable addition inside by junior-senior year.

Can someone lay out Giorgi’s game?

Pick and pop option. Can play the pinch post.

Stronger than Mav Morgan at the same stage as he dunks a lot more and harder. Player with IQ and potential for "skill" which can benefit the game with the right passes, shots, and possibly moves around the basket later.

Videos show glimpses of athletic potential as a 6'10 guy who attempts windmill and 360 dunks.

That said, there are questions about his first step speed and dribbling, etc. skills when actually being guarded. It remains to be seen if he can acclimate to the speed of the college game compared to how Matic's experience has been so far.

Also, his defense has been somewhat suspect in some videos imo.

Love the pickup, much better overall than Maverick, same makeup as Augie imo, I think he will really become a player of note for us over a career.

A lot of aspirational statemements, more than reality. Maverick was higher ranked (~top-150), and averaged 24.7 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.9 blocks as a senior, shooting 61.7 percent from the field. Named Ohio Division I Player of the Year and was first-team All-Ohio.

I hope Giorgi does indeed grow into becoming much better than Maverick, but there is not much to suggest that he is much better than Maverick at the same stage, other than hope, mainly because we really need immediate inside help.

Fair enough, but if any of us has learned anything about recruiting it should be that all the *** and accolades may not really mean much.

This kid may not have the resume, but he seems to move just as well as Maverick seemed to at the same age, I would say he is more athletic overall, he definitely plays or wants to play above the rim more, and he seems to have a very good understanding of the game already per coaches.

Again, no resume, so fair enough, but I still say he will be our next Augie and Maverick could not have been that no matter how much we wanted him to be better than he was.:chief:

Actually, if anyone has learned anything about recruiting is that stars and accolades actually mean a lot. There is no guarantee that a player succeeds but there is a higher correlation between success and stars/accolades. That is actually why people are excited about Ayo and the why the current football recruiting mood is through the roof. :)
