That has never been a problem, professionals have always sought out kids they like for their team/system, including the last 12+ years. The excuse that professionals (coaches) sought recruits that fans (or other people) liked is simply a pathetic excuse. The problem in the last 12+ years is that coaches were not able to land the talent needed to consistently compete in the B1G. I do not buy into the notion that we will somehow consistently outsmart and outsystem the rest of the B1G with lesser talent that fits our system.
As far as my post, a few missed, it was a reference to Flo Thamba and statements made by Werner/Piper (local analysts, not posters) that we removed ourselves from recruiting him because BU does not want any "prospect" bigs but wants more established and higher recruited bigs. I called BS on that statement, especially when schools like Baylor (committed), Oklahoma State. Xavier etc. were aggressively recruiting him. It was the typical local analysts spin machine.
I did not believe the statement, especially when it is very obvious that we need bigs/help having missed on many targets (... we are not talking 5* here) and BU knew/knows that, and this is why we have offered Samba Kane, a much lesser known/recruited big (competition is Ill-Chicago, UMass, Rutgers). The local analyst statement was hogwash, we DO need to take some chances on lesser recruits, not by design, but because we missed on many targets in the fall/winter and we desperately need help. Desperately.
Bruce Weber is far from a success at KSU, actually pretty much all KSU fans will concede that. Five years at KSU has never really won an NCAA tournament game, his last five years are pretty much the same, if not worse, than his last 5 years at Illinois. A huge drop from his predecessor. Had he recruited Dean Wade, Barry Brown, and Weslely Iwundu at Illinois his career would be exactly the same as it was. The talent level at KSU is definitely not what is needed to consistently win in the B1G.
