hope he wouldn't leave for another assistant spot, even at a UK/Duke/KU type.

if they doubled (or more) his pay it could be an easy choice. And if I am not mistaken, UK "used" to pay OA about twice what we currently pay him now. Hard telling what UK would pay him now?

Yeah, but DMW rarely really plays guard does he? He plays the 3 and 4. Are any of the “guards” for next year capable of filling that role? If not, then most of DMW’s minutes will go to forwards — though I’m sure if all the players discussed actually come that BU will dabble with a small lineup sometimes. I’m not saying this to say we shouldn’t take Hardy and Burnett if they want to come. BU and his staff will figure out how to make it all work.
DMW may be back next fall

I have seen Kentucky( they say he is a Tyler Herro clone & they get players to the NBA) Miami ( he might have family down there & the weather) and Illinois ( closest to home and he gets to play Wisconsin every year (they slow played him). Kentucky normally has a mass exodus every year. With them struggling this year, next year is going to be different. I haven't watched many UK games, but Brandon Boston was thought to be one and done before the year started. He hasn't put on much weight or gotten stronger. Combine that with a rough year and he might be back. Off the top of my head they have Hickman and a Forward from Fenwick that I refuse to mention by name.
Boston’s not coming back. Neither is Isaiah Jackson. Who knows about Cam’Ron Fletcher. But yes a lot of their roster will be back including probably Terrence Clark. They have a TON of big men still and with their current commits. It’s kind of stupid in terms of roster construction. There are probably some guard/wing minutes available if he thinks he’s legitimately Tyler Herro (though he’s not, sorry)

Herro is 6 5, Pods is taller correct? Have you seen him play?

He might be a touch taller but so what? Yes I’ve done my YouTube research. Herro as a high schooler was further along in his development, was MUCH quicker, had a better handle, probably a better shooter especially in the mid range, was a better athlete and just had that it factor. Dude could get to any spot he wanted and proved it against better competition. Podz looks really good but Herro was a top 30 recruit and on a different level.

TyTy doesn't seem like a PG and will not displace Curbello as a PG. Still would take Burnette, feel like him and Acewolf would be a problem next year for opponents. Expect both to greatly improve.

Not so sure about. Lot of people saying 7-8 players leaving KY.

"Bossi’s take: The most recent addition to Brad Underwood’s 2021 recruiting class at Illinois, wing Ramses Melendez has been one of the more interesting wing players to scout. He has good size, is fluid in his movement and is a skilled basketball player who can do many things with the ball in his hands.

When his jump shot is rolling and he’s making good decisions with the ball as a passer and handler, Melendez looks like a no brainer four-star prospect. However, I’ve also seen him struggle mightily with his shot and also have his interest level in what is happening vary. When we finalize 2021 rankings, Melendez will definitely be under consideration and if Underwood and the Illini can get him to be more consistent then they could really be onto something."

Well that's simple, we've got no shortage of wings. Get it together consistently or find the bench. The bench can be a great motivator.

The good news is there is a culture and expectations already in place of working your butt off and attention to detail. I saw a quote from him talking about he takes pride in his defense and we already know what BU can do to get players motivated on that end.

Totally agree. The first task is ascension, and that’s been accomplished.

The coaches salaries should no longer be looked at as a burden, and instead an investment. The program should desire to pay the highest salaries across the board in the BigTen and even nation.

The market sets the coaches salaries and if you want one of the bests you should be happy paying them as one of the best. If that’s a struggle financially then the business side of the department needs to better leverage the in court success to improve revenue. No one should ever leave due to pay again. That would be an administrative failure.

I love the culture that has been developed, and certainly the coaches are huge in instilling that but I do wonder how much of that culture is player led. Considering we’ll be losing potentially four players who have been a huge part of developing that culture — Ayo, Trent, DMW and Kofi — just hope the younger players like Miller and Curbelo as well as Giorgi and Grandy can keep moving that culture forward. They certainly won’t have the same gravitas as the older group. I’m sure BU takes buy-in into consideration when recruiting and the first two recruits seem to fit the mold, so hopefully won’t be an issue. But while this team is talented, I think it is that “culture” that has truly made the difference. And the last 3 games have really shown that. Just hope the young guys can step up and be leaders not just in games, but in weight room, practices and meetings next year. If they can then Illini basketball will truly be sustainably back.
