Nothing adds legitimacy like proven success.

The players deserve a ton of credit. When you have a high degree of buy-in and guys really responding to coaching, it's an amazing thing to watch. The coaches can point to success everywhere on the floor, utilizing players in different ways. Doesn't hurt to have a headliner like Ayo, either. Love the recognition for Player of the Year, and he'll be a first rounder or potentially lottery guy this year.

I still expect closing to be a challenge --it's insanely competitive for top talent in division I basketball. But having a bigger pool of interest can only help. Really thankful for the current group and how they're building a strong program.
Couldn’t agree more. Well said.

Yeah he has watched Kofi Develop.. he is coming here.. If he has watched film.. That is a mini Kofi with all those dunks..

1 stat: Kofi leads the nation in dunking I think 71?
Highly doubt he and Kofi will play on the same team considering he said he wants to play for a team that needs a big. Kofi is a toss-up right now whether he will stay or go, but Boakye is definitely listening to what Kofi is going to do. If Kofi leaves, BOAKYE come to the U of I. I know you are reading this thread rn lol

Staff is expecting to zoom with AJ sometime in the near future. I don't disagree necessarily, though.
AJ is a great get, but keep in mind the line of wings ahead of him. Assuming things go as planned--Nimari, Miller, Hutch, Podz, Goode, RJ, Bass. I seriously doubt he will get playing time

It's kinda crazy that we can (at least for this year) point to Adam Miller and DJ Steward and say "you can go be the man from Day 1 and maybe not make the tournament, or you can go to IL and win." Of course, just a tadddddd bit of recency bias there and it's probably a one year blip for the KY/Duke teams, but even being able to truthfully say that this year feels like we're in an alternate universe. I like it, I like it a lot!!

We could really use Washington - he's the stretch 4 we've been looking for, can knock down the three, good hands, active rebounder, elite prospect that would change our recruiting profile

Given what Michigan is brining in, we need more guys like this to just compete in the big ten

Hopefully they aren't brining our bass! I would be pretty salty about it.

A Top #30 recruit like AJ Casey is going to get playing time. Full Stop.

A lot of ways it could play out but here's a few:
1. Nimari, Miller, Goode, Hawkins, and AJ split time at the 2-4 + 10 min as backup to Curbelo at 1. (40x3+10 / 5 = 26 minutes per guy)
2. Bass/Podz/Nimari may never wear the orange and Blue. Hutch may transfer out. Miller may be gone.

But there's no way we'd let "playing time" stop us from landing a Top 30 recruit.

Yes. We would love Washington, but he's a point guard. Lol 6-3, 185 lbs.

For all the misses we had in the fall, I can't imagine this winter hasn't attracted a lot of eyeballs. First time in a decade that we're selling more than just an idea.
Before our biggest selling point is we play our freshmen. Trent, Mark Smith, Ayo, Giorgi, Kofi and Miller all started as freshmen with Underwood and Curbelo gets featured minutes.

Now we can add championship contenders, great culture and pathway to the NBA (assuming Ayo and Kofi are making that leap) to the pitch.

In the long run, if we can lock in the coaching staff and get the IHSAA to permanently play the tourney in Champaign, we will have it all.

Regarding the coaching staff, Whitman hired Underwood when everyone seemed to want him to go all out for Archie Miller. That couldn’t look any better in hindsight.

Just caught up with the last 10 pages. It does make me smile that when only had Goode and where having multiple misses, thread was littered with talk of how recruiting class was tanking and if we were winning why not getting recruits. Now the thread is full of why we shouldn’t take a top 40 recruit here or there because would mess with chemistry and playing time for some current players. I guess file this under recruiting is fluid — as are Loyalty’s takes on recruiting.
Truer words have never been spoken (on this board.)

Even before we hired him, Coach Henson was singing the praises of Brad Underwood. At that time, most of us knew next to nothing about him.

You have to accept a level of temporal ignorance on this site. How many times have we fluctuated between being a top 3 team and a fringe tournament team this season? This board shoots from the hip, nothing to do but chuckle over it.

Loyalty has a shorter term memory than Curbelo travelling 4 times in the first half prior to taking over in the second... Only we don't benefit from or get national recognition for it.

Get those rational thoughts outta here
