Anyone suggesting that Underwood should reoffer Pickett is definitely lacking faith in the staff's forthcoming success with '18 recuits. Underwood said in his interview today that he is never going to reach for a player that doesn't fit the system, just because he can arrive on campus a year sooner. Take a look at the athleticism and speed of the wings the staff has offered over the past few days and compare it to Pickett. I don't mean to be harsh, but it's clear as glass IMO.

We have honored Pickett's request and gave him his release. I think we need to recruit higher level prospects to reach the level we all dream about. BTW, suggesting we ask him back to try to persuade Tilmon is ridiculous!

I agree. Pickett won't get us to the Final Four.

Pickett was recruited for a totally different system by a different staff of course except for Walker. This new staff will get the types of players they need for an up tempo guard dominated system. Pickett saw he could possibly sit for 4 years on the pines or look around for something to more suitably fit his game. Yes Tilmon's decision will have zero to do with Pickett.

Doesn't seem too hard to reconcile what happened. BU probably saw Javon was not a guy he would've offered or one that fit his system. He would honor the offer/commitment made by UI and JP (could've been dictated by Whitman), but not without a frank discussion of how Javon would be used and developed, with a suggestion (however strong) that a redshirt would most likely be in both sides' best interest. JP probably didn't like the idea and opted out, perhaps without scouting where he might otherwise land. A good guess would be that BU was at least OK with that, and Whitman too because the offer was still to be honored but the athlete chose to go. At least that seems a plausible way it could've gone down.

JP will be successful somewhere. If he gets into a good weight program, at the next level he will be tough ( kinda like M Hill out of HS). Heres a clip from JP against MS and Edwardsville last year.

I think he would do well at Bradley. Brian Wardle seems to have the program moving in the right direction and JP would be a good addition. Plus, pretty close to home so his family can come watch him play.

I thought I had read that kids had to agree to redshirt, that they couldn't be forced to do so.

That was what the previous staff said, yes. But you can throw that out the window as this is a very different coaching staff. As has been noted, the coach determines who plays, and that's more important than the player's perception of whether they should be in the game.

This was a tough situation for the recruits once Groce got himself fired. Frazier is a fit and will do well. Smith was recruited by this staff, is a great prospect, and has incredible flexibility. I don't know about Da'Monte, but coming off an injury, it doesn't seem like there's any reason to revisit his choice. That leaves Javon, and I don't see how he's a great fit or likely to leapfrog the guard heavy roster we already have. It's tough, but he's probably better off seeing what he can do elsewhere, assuming he wants to see the floor.

I'm not a fan of this part of college bball, but it is what it is. Wish him luck.

If y'all haven't taken a look at DJ Stewart's tapes, it is curious how he isn't ranked. He is a freak.

I hope we get him and then Fenwick's DJ Steward in a few years so that we have a DJ Stewart and a DJ Steward on the roster. Take that announcers everywhere. :D

Anyone know who all we're still looking at for this year's class?

According to his AAU coach, Pickett is getting interest from Ohio State right now to go along with offers from Western Kentucky and SLU.

Right on all of that. Bradley at Carver is no good. There are virtually no students in attendance outside of the band at any given game. Being on campus would make a huge difference in the crowd. And Carver Arena honestly is dark and outdated. I know the City wouldn't be on board and there is surely a contract to honor with the Civic Center but I'd love to see Bradley play at Renaissance Coliseum more often even with the limited seating.

I agree, I think if Renaissance Coliseum was just 7-8,000 Bradley could use it for basketball. The past attendance is going to take a long time to come back if at all. The crowd looks like they average 65 years old. They have been bad for too long. But they are my team.

Back to Illinois. awful quiet. I am wondering if this class may end up being mostly transfers. I thought the guy that went to UVA was a sure thing for the Illini.

No such thing in recruiting.

Until they start winning, I don't think you'd see many students at the Renaissance, either. They've played a couple of games there and not a lot of students. The Hilltop still creates parking problems, even with the new garages. Plus, they couldn't serve beer there in concessions.
