I'm pretty sure Louisville has already said they aren't taking anyone else this cycle.

That's because Petino said he wanted the 'ship for a 2018.

Word is Bowen is one and done regardless of whether or not he is ready. In that case Petino rolls the dice...if he is ready to contribute, he wins, if not, he leaves after one and still has the 'ship available.

I'm sure that attitude has impacted the list of schools still involved. Guys ranked around 20, that are committed to playing only one year are really risky (selfish by definition). They probably don't have the teams best interest at heart.

I have been hearing so much the past 3 days. I don't know if any one keeps up with Chase Adams from Marian, but word is he is transferring. 3 year starter transferring from the south suburbs to the city.. absolutely nuts!

Always keep tabs on Chase. Didn't hear about him transferring but a lot of Catholic League kids have been transferring to Public League teams. Simeon picked up a 2019 kid, 2 transferred to Curie, including Marquis Walker from St. Joseph (had an offer from the previous staff.)and Marist's Maurice Commander, the 2017 ESC POY. Nothing surprises me about transferring, college or high school. I've also heard Morgan Park or LaLu may be where Adam Miller ends up. Nothing official, mind you, just talk.

Chase has had a great spring for Team Rose on the Adidas circuit, although this tweet is a bit bold for a kid who's still only 5-4.

Word online and in Chicago is that Illinois will end up with a big that committed to UIC. I don't even know his name, just that he was a UIC commit. Another name that is out there is Jericho Sims.
My downtown sources might be correct after all. lol

In this case, I just don't want to spread rumors about a coach based on totally unsubstantiated info and speculation. Regardless, it doesn't really matter all that much. What matters is that I don't think we're likely to get many kids from LaLu in the near future.

So what? We didn't get many before.
For all the talk about our LaLu connections, they never really paid off. Good recruiting relationships are great but they have to produce something.

Bowen's recruitment has been a strange one for sure. His relationship with Hierman is also not just that of a player and coach, there are other strings involved.

Is a 2 star former UIC commit ranked #453 really the answer to our big man problem? Color me skeptical.

Even if Bowen is saying that right now he might be singing a different tune a year from now if the draft projections don't look favorable. I just don't see Pitino passing on someone like Alstork who is more of a sure bet in only taking up a scholarship for one year, and also a safer bet to be a solid contributor as a 5th year senior. I guess it just depends on how much value Pitino places in an extra 2018 scholarship.

I'm incredibly skeptical as well. I would be more on board with a 5th year guy who could just be a body for this season and not take up a scholarship for multiple years. The options are incredibly limited this late in the game though.

Yep. I don't want to say too much here, because it's all rumors and speculation at this point, but it involves a certain player that recently announced that he is transferring.

It wasn't handled correctly & we could have had Heirman what else do you want to know?? But even tho he transfered, bringing JCL in it isn't the way to go

I trust BU to not get anyone that he doesn't think can win basketball games for him

Technically, Eboigbodin is a more highly rated recruit than Kenneth Faried was... just saying. Who knows what'll happen.

It's June (basically). The choice is either open scholarship or somebody. This guy sounds like a perfectly adequate somebody.

Say this kid commits today. That still leaves 3 scholarships for next year which could easily be used on a 5th year. If another is, that still leaves 4 open for 2018. A developing big man is in no way a waste of a 4 year scholarship at any time, and especially not now.

sounds like he was rising during his senior year.

Dont know about this kid, but I'm hopeful that our staff doesnt rely on recruiting services to make their decisions.

Agree with Follow Tisdale, I think it is a good offer if we get him...backup/limited minutes for 1-2 years and then heavily fall back on year 3-4 in a mobile offense, which he seems to fit into. Another 1-2 inside players at this point is like trying to find someone that can say provide what 8-12 minutes a game at most...pretty sure this kid could do that.

Now of course Finke and Black have to stay healthy and out of foul trouble for that.

I seem to recall a blurb in the Chin interview that he had called BU when he was at UIC to start implementing his system. So if Chin was recruiting him, he may be a good fit system-wise.

Actually, if ever there was a time to take a chance on a project big, now would be the time. We have scholarships to give, so from an opportunity cost, we're getting 1 year free. I think a 5th year would have been a logical bridge to next year, but absent that I think the gap is too big not to take on someone you think can give post defense and rebounding with enough coaching. We're just too damn thin at center not to.
