Like i was saying earlier. If he really wanted to go to us he would have made the call already. He has visited, he has numerous zoom calls. I'd be willing to bet a nice amount of cash this won't end well for us.
I agree. Get ready for the nut punch. What is even more disturbing is Mac could step in from day one and start.

People really underestimate the relationship factor in a recruitment. Feeling comfortable with someone makes all the difference. People had the same "shock" when we landed Kofi, Curbelo, etc.

Relationships go a long way. It's not the end of the world. Tough miss, but there are others on the market.

Side note - I think recruitment should be a little easier once Ayo actually leaves. We've been telling several classes now that, "Ayo will be gone next year".

But were running way behind in this recruiting cycle. If your banking on landing kids in the Spring your behind the eight ball.

Name someone that you feel like we have a good chance with? I agree about Kofi and Curbelo. Not attacking your post just interested who you think we have that type of relationship with.

Have we ever won a recruitment where the Tipton Edits handle, or whatever it is, has been involved?

Don't know if anyone else feels the same way, but I'm guilty of thinking higher of the Illinois brand than the rest of the country does.

We've had some recruiting success recently (Ayo, Kofi, Miller, Curbelo), but keep in mind:
-We only have 2 current NBA players (Leonard, Nunn) and technically Nunn would be from Oakland
-Our last NCAA tournament appearance was 2012-13

I understand that we're preseason top-10 and we were on our way to the tournament last year, but I just don't know if that resonates as much outside of our fandom.

Just my two cents.

With that said, I'm still very optimistic about the future of Illini basketball and Brad Underwood.

Recent recruiting losses to: DePaul, Memphis, Creighton - all of which are either under investigation by the NCAA/FBI or have had players held out due to improprieties. Just proves that in the NCAA, it pays to cheat

I believe there is a no penalty transfer for next year.
It's my understanding that all seniors this season are getting an extra year of eligibility for 2021-22 if they wish. Is that correct? If so, Frazier and/or Williams could return next season, leaving us with four solid guards presuming Miller is not a one-and-done. Goode seems more likely a wing than a guard. This could've factored into TyTy's decision., Top factor for most recruits is playing time.

Underwood doesn’t seem to close well on recruits with questionable character and the handful that have been in the program tend to get culled pretty quickly. Just an observation.

Exactly. I love the Illini and the direction Underwood has the program heading, but the truth of the matter is that over the first three years the Illini are just a few games over .500. The glory days we lived through and remember are almost literally a lifetime ago for these recruits. When they look at Illini basketball they don’t see what we see. If this season goes like we all hope that will all start to change. Never going to get every top recruit, but sooner than later the Illini will start getting more than its share.

I have full confidence in Underwood and the assistants, but it is a little bizarre that we've had so many misses this fall. I know they will continue to be active, but you'd hate to see a gap in talent for a recruiting cycle.
