Definitely not good, but I'm glad we know now and not in the spring. BU and the staff can continue to evaluate and prioritize. The transfer market is going to be unlike any before and I have to think that there's going to be a transfer big that's going to see the opportunity here, assuming Kofi departs for the NBA. Sucks to keep missing, but I'd rather swing for the fences and miss at this point in the recruiting season than settle for players rated lower than what we've been involved with so far.

BOOOOOOOO
I'm still confident and optimistic. I'm giving BU and staff the benefit of the doubt.

However, this looks so incredibly similar to 2004-05. I wonder what the "real cause" is (of these misses). For Weber, I just don't think he was a very good recruiter and he benefitted significantly from the talent left behind by Self. For the most part, Brad is coaching the guys he recruited....so we're just looking for a continuation of the exquisite job he's thus far done.

That’s some really bad news. Tough, tough stretch since the Goode commit.

Opting for LA over Champaign is unfathomable. 🤫
Kofi will be back next year. Too many flaws in his game to go pro and his game is not tailored for the NBA. Underwood will get his. I truly believe there will be more surprises in the Spring then we think.

I think when Bruce Weber lost Julian Wright to Kansas without him visiting Kansas at the height of the Illini's on-court success was when I first started to worry about the future of the program under Weber. I didn't think I'd have a similar situation develop with this current staff but the string of misses this fall is really surprising and telling and makes me wonder what's going on behind the scenes. Would love to know if there's something brewing with the staff or what the inside story is.

Way to early for any Kofi predictions one way or the other. If we make the final 4 run that some have predicted, anything can happen. Including Miller being gone. We need to recruit a quality big and another shooter. We can’t wait to see what happens with all the other pieces.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
Obviously you have to have guys like Ayo, Kofi, Miller, Curbelo, but the current top-5 Illini team was composed during a stretch of a couple years where the staff missed on a ton of guys and were left scrambling to simply fill roster spots. Two of those guys aren't on the team this year and they're missed terribly. One just got a double-double off the bench for Cuse. I'm not worried. Have a good year and we'll be fine. The one thing I like about this staff's recruiting is its ability to locate, attract, and develop hidden talent when their plans A & B fall through.

Deron Williams committed to Illinois without ever visiting. Self with the help of Billy Gillespie and Norm Roberts was the best recruiting head coach Illinois ever had. Some guys can sell.

This Big Mac news reminds me of any number of football games that I've watched.
Everything seems close, competitive. You're sort of keyed up to watch the game and its just about go time.
And then the opponent has a Pick Six and you watch it all go down the drain . . .

I'm sad.

What you fail to mention is that Illinois was 3rd in Williams' order, at best, and the first two schools (UNC & GT) landed PGs. A lot of serendipity in that recruitment.

Paging QC, can you shed some insight on Etienne and where Illinois is headed next? Thanks in advance.

I didn’t panic when Wright went to KU. We had Augie for one more year with Carter, Randle, and Pruitt inside for the next few years after that. We could “go get the next one.”

I wasn’t even upset when Scheyer went to Duke. Seemed like a perfect fit for him.

But when Sherron Collins committed to KU in October after the title run, with backcourt essentially free of competition for the foreseeable future, I was gutted.
