I'm watching Edwardsville vs Althoff. All I can
Say about Smith is, *wow* If we don't offer him then we
have blinders on. This kid is borderline 5* in my humble opinion...

We were calling that swag, when we thought he was coming here.

Never was a big fan of that swag, noticed it last year even when he was an Illini recruit. Regarding game, Espenesa is not playing his usual self, not handling the ball well. Smith playing well, but not great. Has made some bad decisions (very long shots), they all probably need to settle down. But still did enough to score 15. Right now I would hand him the ball to run the PG spot, and I'm not talking about just Edwardsville.

The next kid is always the best kid and gunna save the program. Illini fans are uncanny sometimes.

I've watched hundreds of high school basketball games and I've never seen a player complain as much as Goodwin at this level.

DMac was an extremely gifted offensive player. We throw that comparison around too easily. He'd be a legend here if he had gotten any help.

Counterpoint: He played with two other top 25 scorers in Illini history, number two on the all time rebound list, and number three in the all time blocked shots list. That feels like a lot of help.

I agree with your assessment that we as a group get carried away with our player comparisons, but I think you're doing the same with Dmac. He was a great passer. A good scorer, but his perimeter defense would fit in nicely on this years team. Could he have been a starting PG on an elite team? Sure. But if he was the best player on your team, you weren't going to be much better than we were during his four years here.

I see what your saying but Smith passes the eye test. For those that have followed IHSA and Illini U BB for 30 plus years you know who is special. Kid has transferable skills and size to the college game. Besides the eye test he has many tools (hits open shot, creates own shot, create shots for others, defends, and rebounds).

It's not just Smith it's a disease with us as fans and yes I'm just as guilty as the next guy. The grass is always greener on the other side and it rarely is.

I hope in a few years I'm eating some crow but our rose color glasses are consistently overly rosy imo.

Mark Smith just dunked on a Athloff player ala Derrick Rose in CPL championship!!! Yeah I'm not sure we should offer though.

that was a nasty dunk.

this was said before on this board, but i'll repeat it. for the most part, i like Smith's decision making and leadership as a PG for edwardsville.

If they don't offer Smith after tonight I don't know what they want in a recruit. This kid would be a gift!

I am 100% certain he is getting an offer. By end of weekend.

Smith 29 and 8 assists
Goodwin 33 and 14 boards

2 great, great players going at it.
