Not signing is completely reasonable these days if a player is concerned about coaching changes or job security or just wants to make sure that something drastic doesn't happen after the player commits. However, it would make me feel much better to hear Tilmon say that rather than these blank statements that he just isn't signing and he's waiting. He could easily come out and say, "Hey- I'm waiting because I want to make sure nothing changes with Illinois but I'm still an Illini guy." He hasn't done that and that is what really concerns me.
Maybe he is staying loyal and just making sure that the rug doesn't get pulled out from under him. I would be shocked if a player had so little respect and loyalty after all these years of recruiting him that he would pull the rug out from under Groce at the last minute.
Maybe Groce knew this was happening all along...
I'm trying to find silver linings here. The last 12-24 hours of news have not brought me a lot of hope.
The thing is though, nothing at Illinois HAS changed since July. Groce's seat is at the exact same temperature it was then (Though you could make the argument that, by committing, Tilmon himself made it cooler). So the question is why commit at all if you want to see how Illinois does this season? He'd have a spot regardless so it's not like he's trying to reserve his scholarship. All it can do is hurt us if he goes elsewhere.
So if nothing has changed on our end then something obviously has on his. Someone (Ford, Tate, Goodwin, whoever) has been in his ear giving him doubts. I haven't lost all hope but it certainly doesn't look good.
