Sure why not? I don't know how these coaches sleep at night.

No honor among thieves.

Why not every shady coach? Is it too late for Auburn to jump in?

Make no mistake, this is very much a Jerrance thing vs a Self thing

It makes no difference, they are both recruiting for KU, both very well connected in Ilinois. Kansas going after Illinois recruits is the least surprising thing, now or in the future. Having said that, I doubt that this is what caused JT's decision not to sign, but they saw an opportunity to possibly get involved.

For some reason, I feel better losing JT to Kansas instead of SLU if he decommits. Obviously, i'd prefer he not decommmit.

If Western Kentucky gets involved, we'll know he gawn. Seriously. Read up on that recent little gem of a recruiting hotbed. Rick Stansbury always gets his man.

EXACTLY!

If Groce wants him, then Groce better get this team to the tourney and maybe win a game or two in the tourney and keep his job, maybe even earn an extension and then Groce can land top recruits like TIlmon, Kiir, Epperson, etc.

Yep. We have to remember that these kids were barely in elementary school when we were good. Start winning and these problems go away!

You do know that a lot of the schools getting 5 Stars players that were mentioned above have Sucked for a long time right ? So just Winning doesn't explain why their recruiting has gone through the roof when they now have Coaches with a past history of being known cheats.

I read a lot of speculation here that JT may be waiting to see if Groce will be fired at the end of the season but didn't he say he was committing to the school and not the coach when he verbaled?

I don't remember him saying that. I recall he mentioned pride of playing for the state school and his relationship with the coaching staff.

Either way, I personally doubt that him not signing has anything to do with waiting to see if Groce gets fired. Unless he is trying really hard to get Groce fired.

Hes not waiting on anything I told u guys this months ago my sources said as soon as goodwin committed to Ford Tillmon was unsure about Illinois.... The truth is Groce cant get the big fish period and thats because we dont win games bottom line and until we start winning consistently that will never change

I disagree. If Tilmon was concerned about winning he wouldn't be considering Stl. Ford can't win no matter how much talent he has. Tilmon along with everyone else in the world knows that.

From what I have seen on twitter, it seems like Tilmon not signing is because he sees a coach on the hot seat.

Can you blame him? Youre a 5 star recruit with an excellent chance to get to the next level. Do you want to sign to a coach with who has a good chance of losing his job? He is committed to Groce, but I am pretty sure he said at one point he was comitted to the university.

If you asked me he wants to go to UI, but doesn't want to ruin his chance getting to the next level over it. That's why he isn't signing.

Coach has been on the hot seat on and off for months now, so doubtful that's the real reason for Tilmon reneging. It appears to be more of a brainwash job by other teams and/or players trying to get him to change his mind. In spite of all the drama, hope he stays true in committing to UI.

How has Groce been on and off the hot seat this whole month? JW gave him an endorsement saying he will be our coach this year. Is Groce on the hot seat right now? Yes. if you asked me Groce is coaching a full year next year for sure, and if he makes the tournament his job is guaranteed. I think tilmon is a 2 and done player, maybe even a 1 and done. I think Tilmon wants to play for Groce, and not comitt to a university that potentially could be without a coach when he wants to get to the next level.

Believe Twitter if you wish, but Tilmon is being manipulated by outside forces.

Another add on, if SLU is playing dirty then why the hell is Kansas in this conversation at all? Is Kansas playing dirty too?

Of course they are. Any team is playing dirty that's isn't Illinois. I think he isn't going to sign without knowing about Groce either. He might of believes that with this class Groce would be off the hot seat and maybe he hasn't seen that and is waiting to see

It is time to stop pretending that it is ok to go back on your word. Once you give your word, in this case a verbal commitment, it is a commitment of you word and your integrity depends on fulfilling your word. It is NOT ok for anyone to go back on your word even if you are a teenager. Words like spineless and untrustworthy come to mind. I don't know about anyone else but, I don't want anything to do with any person that lacks INTEGRITY.

This is not directed to anyone specific. I am tired of the wusification of America. If your word means nothing then, you are basically worthless. Just my personal opinion.

Maybe people acting this way are not basically worthless necessarily, but for sure are not completely honest or can be trusted to keep their word.

BTW, from one USAF vet to another, happy veteran's day to you and all other vets in all branches of the military! Now go out and eat for free today!! :)

Last winter, one of my friends who's deeply connected in University of Michigan athletics said this: The recruitment of Josh Jackson (number 1 recruit in 2016) is the dirtiest recruitment in a decade, and wherever he goes will undeniably be the program willing to be the dirtiest in the country. Guess where Josh Jackson landed?

If Groce were let go after this season any of the 2017 players would be able to get out of their LOIs without question. This is not the reason Tilmon has not signed.

Granted recruiting rankings don't mean everything, but if you go over to 247Sports and plug JT into SLU's recruiting class, their ranking is lower than Illinois' currently is.

Coupled with the fact that the rest of SLU's existing roster has much less talent than Illinois, I can't see them making any sort of national splash at any point that JT would be there.

By stringing together a few more classes in a row after 2017, they absolutely could down the road and Goodwin would be a major part of it - just don't see it happening in their first 2 years (look at TAMU last year).

#446
Do we know if the staff is still in contact with Tillmon? Of if he's shut them down ala Goodwin.

Of course not. Not only for practical matters (there is no risk) but even relationship-wise, it is like saying that he loves Groce and wants to make sure he plays for Groce and no other coach, but at the same time bombarding Groce's fate and recruiting class by not signing at the last minute. It is a huge contradiction.

What happened so far (Tilmon not signing) has been a very negative development for Groce.

#448
they should just change the early signing period to where a kid can sign his LOI any time they want same with Football then it takes all this im committed im not committed stuff out of the picture.

I do not know what national splash means, but if that were to happen, they would have two 5-star players in Tilmon, Gordon plus Goodwin, the same player that all Illini fans praised as the "glue", possibly more important than Tilmon, the endless worker, the culture maker, etc. - obviously, that was before he went to SLU.

On the other hand, Nunn already left and Hill, Mav, Abrams, Thorne, and Tate are all leaving.

It is a really bad development thus far and we can just hope that the situation is reversed soon.
