Strange time to leave.

yes there was an article talking about that saying he have to wait till end of first half and then transfer and sit out a year per NCAA rules and only get to play the second half his senior year. Makes me think he may have left for personal reasons.

Anyone who plays first semester and transfers has to sit out the second semester and first semester at his new school.

Cohen has used his junior year of eligibility at Marquette and second semester next year will be his senior year. If he hasn't redshirted before, he could sit out all if next year and come back the following year for a full year.

yeah thats what I was trying to say just didn't make it very clear my bad. Still seems like a strange time to leave for playing time making me think it might be personal reasons.

The only thing I didn't like in that video was around the 1:40 mark he catches the ball high and then brings it down to his waist and back up to shoot.

Not sure how many shooters I've ever seen catch high and not reload to shoot unless they're in the paint.

Im not saying they dont reload. Im saying that im not sure how well it is to reload at your waist. Ive seen a lot reload at chest or top of stomach. This is also just me being picky. When I coach kids I try to tell them dont catch the ball bring it to your waist and go back up as it takes more time and easier for people to block or steal the ball. However it was the only time he did it and the pass was pretty high so its not that big of a deal.

This guy seems like a wing, you would think we would be focusing more on bigs at this point. A guy like Wilkes, sure you take him its a no brainer. A guy like this who is much more of an unknown that doesn't play at a position of need seems like an odd choice.

He does not have an Illinois offer. Coaches are always looking, though.

We could use both IMO. Until we see a huge improvement from AJ or DJW, we need to recruit the wing. I highly doubt this is really affecting our recruitment of bigs anyway.

You can never have too many wings when you are Wing U.:)

Can never hurt to have 6'5" guys that can shoot from deep.

For 2018, sure...but for 2017? We will have 6 guys on the wing, plus 2 pgs and only 3 bigs. I think we would only want an instant-impact wing player for next year at this point.

That's how it is without any attrition, yes. If those guys don't improve, then someone would fill in their place. There's a difference between the wing being a position of strength and a position with depth and right now it's the latter. We have to continue to recruit the position until we know it's a position of strength. If the current guys work out, then great. If not, at least we can have back-up options.

I am not sure what you think DJ is doing wrong other then being behind hill and not getting to play 25 mins a game he needs to work on his D but they all do AJ its really hard to tell for the same reason playing behind JCL he really doesn't get se the floor for long periods.

:thumb: I agree.

I don't think that either has shown a ton proving that they cannot be counted on as starter/major role as upperclassmen. I think DJW has shown a bit more so far, but I really think AJ is going to be a really good player for us in the future.

DJW is doing better and I do have hope that he's going to be a pretty good player down the road. He is still not there yet, but there's plenty of season to go. There's not much he can do right now being behind Hill, except to play hard when he is in the game and right now he's doing that more consistently than the past. AJ on the other hand needs to show more promise. His outside shot is coming along but he is still far from a finished product. Being behind JCL is no excuse, JCL has only been averaging 20 minutes per game. This is the time that AJ had to take advantage of and so far he hasn't. JCL is only going to earn more playing time as the season progresses. He definitely has potential but that's all we have right now and at a certain point they need to show more glimpses of the potential for more than just a play or two. Until then, we need to recruit like they won't reach that potential. Once we see production, then the staff can spend less time recruiting that position. Even then, you still recruit because nothing is a sure thing. We have depth at this moment, but we don't know if we can say that next year. Our need for a big or two doesn't mean we stop recruiting other positions.

I'll go farther and say you keep recruiting even if your backups look really good. Too many unknows out there - injuries, disciplinary problems, transfers etc. Most coaches are always trying to add more talent. That said, obviously it makes sense to work harder at adding PF/Cs at this point than wings.

Isn't there some kind of law of diminishing returns, though? Wings are the easiest position to recruit (true PGs and skilled bigs are more rare). We are 3-deep at each wing spot RN...I feel like we've covered the backup plans for next year.

We're not deep at the 4 or 5, and we only have 2 young PGs. Those positions are more needed, and given limited recruiting time and resources, it seems like kind of a waste of time to focus on any more wings for 2017 unless we're talking about a top talent (like Wilkes)

Groce mentioned in one of his last press conferences I listened to that their recruiting priority is to add more Big's, or something along that line ?

Who's this Tillmon fellow? Is he someone we're looking at since Jeremiah Tilmon signed?
