I've watched Mark Smith play twice this year, against Carbondale and Althoff. He's listed at 6'4, is built like a rock and is very quick. He plays point and can do whatever he wants to on the floor. He's a better athlete than Goodwin is, IMO. He can shoot definitely shoot the 3 and he's capable of going end-to-end with guys "bodying" him up and throwing down the "hammer" over top of them. He has a high B-ball IQ and is very unselfish. I'd say he's also every bit of the hustler that Goodwin is, but does it without the "flair". Supposedly, only put in a couple weeks of AAU, but based on his showings this year, I'd put him in the top 100. I was more impressed by Smith than Goodwin.

Some team is going to get a steal and I would gladly take him despite us having so many guards next year.

That's what I have been hearing around town.

I live in the area so i'm definately going to be checking him out when they play east side, Belleville West, and East. Hopefully he continues to impress.

I have watched him and Goodwin too many times to count. He is just as good as Jordan Goodwin if not better. Has a great shot and an explosive first step. He is already built like a college basketball player. His recruitment is very confusing because, as someone said above, he was committed to play baseball at Mizzou. He is by far the most underrated player in Illinois and, because of his size, I think his ceiling is higher than Goodwin's. I would 100% give him an offer if I am Groce.

Only downfall is how cocky he plays. Gets him into trouble but that's a learning process that most kids that age experience when they are that talented.

@UIHoopsRecruits, will re-tweet just about everything out there. Though he's been somewhat quiet recently, probably due to the current state of the program, like many fans.

Derek Piper is all you really need. He's keyed in. Head bball and recruiting reporter for scout premium site. If he tweets it, it's the truth

You can follow as many accounts as you can imagine. You can follow tons of guys at 247 including Jerry Meyer, Piper, UI hoop recruits, Jeremy Warner, and others.

Ironically, the start of the HS season is typically a slow period for recruiting news.

That being said, if you're in the Chicago area, state champs Curie are playing Jeremiah and ESL at 7:30 at UIC. Part of the Chicago Elite Classic which has a bunch of good games tonight and tomorrow night.

It sounds like its $5 for an all day pass. I was wondering if you can come and go as you please. I want to watch all of them except Collinsville vs. O’Fallon.

I hope there were a few good basketball players on the E.St.Louis football team who are back. Tilmon did not have much around him to help in the opener.

True. And as good as my beloved alma-mater Champaign Central is, Curie is much better. Tilmon will need some help if ESL is going to avoid a beatdown.

FWIW on Burninga, Scott Burgess rates him as the ninth best PF in the state. Also says he doesn't have any D1 offers, though "...he is garnering quite a bit of legit buzz at both the mid-major and low-major levels."
