With Kiir I think it was more about playing time right away. Illinois couldn't offer nearly as much as VCU I am sure. Kiir likely wouldn't start here until he was a junior if ever. I also haven't looked at VCU's roster so I could be wrong

Sure. I was always under the impression that Kiir was very raw, though, and likely wouldn't be ready to handle major minutes right off the bat. Admittedly, that is from reading around on here and nothing else.

It also doesn't address losing Goodwin to SLU. Or other similar recent situations.

Trouble with that line of thinking is that VCU has almost unquestionably been a better program than us over the last 7-8 years.

They are currently a better team than us.

I know VCU has had better recent years than us, same with a lot of other mid-majors. But you can't convince me that if had some of our recent rosters in some of these other mid-major conferences we wouldn't have had tournament appearances also. And, I'm not sure the VCU's of the world would be in so many tournaments if they were in the B10 with our schedule.

They are currently a better team than us.

We will find out on Dec 3 on who the better team is currently, considering the Illini play them in Miami.

You're probably right, and at UI he probably wasnt going to start until his junior year and I am not sure if he gets many minutes Freshman to Sophomore year. He might have even red shirted his freshman year here.

Once I saw the players and circumstances around Kiir I didn't think U of I would be the pick. Not about who is the better or recent successful program. I believe eligibility was the biggest issue.

We currently only have 3 bigs in 2017, unlikely he would have redshirted unless we picked up another big.

He would have been a great pickup for us.
