Another is Matt Sylvester's basket from Ohio State that upset undefeated Illinois in the last regular season game of 2005. Fortunately, today will be a much better day.

I contend that that shot made that team better. Woke them up for the tourney and the NCAAs.

I like Henricksen's take on it. I know it's not necessarily Gospel, but he does make a very well-reasoned that JT just isn't a terrible person who would be committed for months only to back out 48 hours before signing day and sign with someone else altogether.

Yeah Tilmon is still wearing an Illini jersey in his twitter photo. Anybody but us would be a real poke in the eye... not that that's never happened before. But I don't get that vibe here.

In other words, nobody but the Tilmon family has a clue. 4:08 until Hallelujah or Doomsday; Leonard Cohen or Barry McGuire.

Sure they do. This isn't a commitment press conference, where someone can change their mind at the last minute. The LOI is in. If a school has it, they know. If a school doesn't have it, they know. The only people that don't "know" are the fans, so we have to rely on hints and winks and nudges from people who should know.

There are lots and lots and lots of hints that Illinois has it.

IIRC, that Duke game also included Chris Collins (or was it Wojo) with their face buried in a towel on the bench.

Augie was far from an awkward underclassman IMO. Actually, it was very surprising how good he was right off the bat as an underclassman. Speaking of Augie, he is currently playing at the highest level outside of the NBA. Not a star or starter but a solid role player for Euroleague champions CSKA.

he was quite decent, you are right, I feel like he was the only guy to could do anything when they were all freshman VS providence in MSG. he got so darned polished though.

Luther was the biggest spaz ever as a freshman. he looked like he had some out of control rocket strapped to his back most of the time.

Um...Kaufman says goodnight to Iowa? :D Somebody already got it.

Another one about that win at duke was Jerrod Gee's monster slam. I have a hard time linking the dunk but I found it last time it was mentioned.

Brandon Paul at the Maui Tourney was fun to watch.
Best moment I have seen live was the Ray Rice step back to beat Missouri.

I would not say spaz, but Luther did undergo a drastic transformation. He was recruited as a PG from Manley (I never thought he had PG skills) but he was just an athletic leaper as a freshman.

Luther never developed the PG skills, but he did develop his outside shooting, something that he never had at Manley.

The UW game was one of the worst officiated games in college basketball history. UW had no business winning that game I still have the box score saved at home, the free throw disparity was 39-11, and got hacked regularly with no calls down the stretch. That game ended the careers of Dee and Auggie. I was pissed for weeks, out of my mind, and even wrote the AD of UW an email asking that he acknowledge how bad the refs were. He wrote me the nicest response all but saying it. GAH.

Let combat ourselves and start a list off the best moments.

Everybody always brings up the elite eight game vs. Arizona when discussing all-time hose jobs we've been associated with, and that was a bigger stage than the UW game, but I agree. I've never been as angry at officiating as I was during that UW game. It was absolutely ridiculous. And we were in total control of that game.

I've been a JFG guy from the start. But this is what I miss the most. It hasn't felt this way, probably since Frazier was the pg. God this team needs to get some attitude and swagger back. Take that step today at 1pm!

I second the Rayvonte Rice's step back in STL! Now that you brought up Brandon Paul, I got reminded of his awesome game against Gonzaga in Spokane. He was on fire!!

I am not disagreeing with you or with the post about oh-so-close. But if you want a Cubs moment go back and watch Arizona 2005, or at least the second half. I tear up with joy and pride every time I watch it, and its a great thing to watch when you are feeling blue without the orange.
As absolutely fantastic as that moment was, it is not a Cubs moment. A Cubs moment would have been them pulling off that game in the National Championship. Now THAT would have been a Cubs moment. Hopefully we'll get ours someday. :thumb:

Watching Jon 3Key beat Iowa live is up there. Also because I was sitting between the 2 most annoying Iowa fans I know. My wife and my mother in law. Still puts a smile on my face.

-You forgot Juice almost single-handedly beating #1 Ohio State in their stadium in 2007. That's the game that essentially got us into the Rose Bowl that year.
-Illini tennis under Tiley winning the National Championship, going undefeated.
-The McCamey Illini comeback against Clemson
-Beating Nebraska last year
-Pounding Northwestern at Wrigley

There are some good positive moments, but most of them didn't mean much in the scheme of things. If they did at the time they only set us up to losing on a bigger stage in a more depressing way later. The only ultimate victory was the Men's Tennis, but I think we'd all trade 10 tennis championships for one men's basketball NC, or a BCS title (or heck, even a Rose Bowl win).
