Are we going to have room on the team for Jones after Nolley changes his mind and comes to play with Ayo?

Luther's going to pay out-of-pocket for both of them to walk-on.

Looks much more like a smooth wing primarily vs a conventional or combo guard...kid's got some KD in his movements/game!:chief:

Listed from 6'4 to 6'6 and he is aggressive.

Holy crap kid looks good, uber long athlete. I would tell this kid we will work our hardest to turn you into a PG. Kid gets down court fast with ball and can break players at the top of key for drives (Groce's perfect player).

I see a little bit of Nolley in his game, but not sure this kid isn't any better or athletic. I buy the comparison to Caris LeVert.

That's funny. I occasionally play pick up at Culver City HS. Either way, loyalty has both sites covered should we run into him. Insider info forthcoming.

I'm in SM so I'll go for insider too

If John Groce isn't Mr. Nice Guy and recruits LeVert to Illinois over Ohio (prior to Michigan) he is likely still our coach. LeVert could have bridged the gap between Paul/Richardson with Nunn/Hill. Likely 1-2 NCAA appearances and improved recruiting.

I loved John as a person (although his rhetoric wore on me, eventually), but man oh man am I glad that that didn’t happen then (if your cause effect scenario would have come true)...
I, for one, am very excited to have a coach who puts the emphasis on coaching, education, Xs and Os... and not on catchy slogans.
Slogans and axioms are a great thing, they just can’t be the primary thing.

I’m excited for years of improvement among players and play.
Let the ascension begin.

I think that's giving Caris a little too much credit. Caris likely isn't Caris if he comes to Illinois.

So well said
Can't be the primary thing. . .
How simple and just how clear is that.

I would love to believe that Adam Miller is our next commit. I know he liked ILL when at Manual and now with Ayo, you gotta feel good.

I think he is still a ways away from that, If any one I would guess Okoro would be the first non 18 kid

For me, Okoro is the most important recruit within the next two years.

Agreed, although Miller would be great and it would seem as we are sitting fairly well as of now with his interest and Ayo being here, Okoro will be the program changing recruit.

By the time he commits, he will be far better than now and I believe at last ranking he was like 28..if he breaks Top 25 or better, that is a program changing ranking as well as his position. If we can get him to come aboard, how many more athletic aggressive bigs might we have a chance to do better with in the future?

Okoro is the key in that class, I believe if he comes then Whitney and Liddell will be here as well, that would make for a serious change of fortunes with our experienced guards already in place....man!:chief:

to me EJ is the most important, he is vastly underrated and getting him over Mizzu is just a bonus. Getting him and Okoro to replace Black and Finke would really make things look like they are going in the right direction fast

We need that rim protector to go where we want to get to. Very optimistic with Okoro's relationship with Ayo appearing to be close friends.

Does anyone have a view into whether Okoro and Liddell having played together on the same AAU team help us or hurt us in the quest to land both?

Just guessing that getting Okoro would help with Liddell. EJ likely wants a C/PF in place so that he's guaranteed to not play the 5.

From what I've heard of him, he's a PF at the college level and a SF at the following level (NBA, Europe, etc).

Adding Okoro, Liddell, and Whitney would be a home run after getting Ayo this year.

FIFY.

I concur. I've seen EJ and Okoro play in person including Okoro 6 times. I think EJ is underrated as much as Mark Smith ended up being underrated. Okoro will probably get there but his offensive game is raw.

Tim Finke taking an OV to Grand Canyon University this weekend.

Hmmm, wonder what the connection is to Majerle and co. Regardless, I don't think Tim is going to end up an Illini. If he doesn't blow up this fall, he'll end up at a non-P5. If he does increase his stock, I think he'll end up at a school that hasn't recruited him previously.

Can't hurt. They played well together on BBE during EYBL, having Garland and Hellems helped with their success on BBE.

With Ayo on board, plus Whitney and having another great PG in Adam Miller likely coming in 2020, ILL has to be extremely intriguing to them.:shield:

Perhaps the connection is Colangelo

This should never happen. Tim’s too good a player for that. One bad summer. Geez. From Kansas, Illinois, Vandy and ND to Grand Canyon OV?!? What if he would have committed last year to one of the high majors? Somebody is going to be lucky and happy to sign him.

Happens all the time unfortunately. He didn’t look like he belonged at that level pretty much all summer and it appears he’s going to have to prove himself if he wants a high D1 scholarship. Super frustrating for him, the family, and our staff I’m sure, who would love to take a hometown legacy.

Phoenix in November is one of the nicest places to visit that doesn't have a beach!:thumb: Although the campus location is a BIG disadvantage. The surrounding area isn't the nicest. Has to be a favor for Colangelo I'd think.

The surrounding area is being overhauled and purchase systematically by the University, the University home golf course is the old Maryvale course.

They spent reportedly 3 million alone in the clubhouse and dining area, the Chorizo Burger is 2nd to none.:chief:
