If you're referring to me, I'm not an IU fan.

Also, never once said Lefty was a "liar". He knows a lot more than myself in most recruiting situations. Just wanted to share what I know.

I don't know if his sources are correct but I like the way that lefty handles himself on here. He starts out most posts by saying that it's what he's heard, without implying that it's a fact. In my opinion, that's more respectable than saying things are a done deal or a lock.

Interesting times
1. Wilkes down to Illinois, Indiana and UCLA
2. Kiir down to Illinois , NC State and VCU
3. Kigab down to Illinois and Oregon

Seems like all three coming to a head real soon.

Which of the three is the most important for the Future? Not necessarily the best player.

Myself I say Kiir because if like most think JT plays 2 years and goes pro he would be the only front court player left as I do not think we will land a 2018 big, That said I would be lying if I wasn't hoping for Wilkes more

I'll take all three.

Everything posted on here is what someone heard... Groce himself could tell a IL user he got a recruit and that condition would still apply. Nothing is factual until the a recruit signs a LOI.

Which is most important

I think Kiir is because we need the big and he will have more affect on the defense. We have current and future options at the three and winning will be the factor that helps our future recruiting.

That's kinda the point of what Newman was saying. Some guys come on here and talk in absolutes, even though we all know things can change at the drop of a hat.

Lefty always hedges by saying "This is what I've heard" or "There's a good chance". It makes it more believable than "No way he's going to ___". He is much more transparent with where his information is coming from and rarely presents things as certainties.

Landing Wilkes a likely MCAA player, would give Illinois and Groce more acceptance among the elite players IMHO. Him being out of state, especially Indiana would be another bonus. Also having an impactful and long career in the NBA would be used in the future for recruiting.

Kiir could be a solid and needed 4 year player, but once again wouldn't give us the benefit in recruiting circles like Wilkes could.
Pretty much agree with this. Wilkes is a program changer from an on-court and a recruiting perspective. He makes us a much better team for the 2 years (probably) he would be here, and his potential impact on future recruiting would be huge.

Kiir on the other hand would also be immensely useful going forward. He would likely be a 4 year contributor (2 year starter), and as has been mentioned, we don't have a lot of big depth in the pipeline. Also, if he develops well, it gives you some ammunition towards recruiting more bigs down the road.

Alright. If I know something again, I'll start by saying, "If something crazy happens or if there is a coaching change".

Just not speaking in absolutes would do wonders for how your statements are perceived. Far too many 'locks' 'guaranteed' 'never gonnna happens' 'done deals' etc... have fallen by the wayside on here for those statements to have any weight any more.

I agree that quote stood out, and if I remember correctly DRose said something similar. But it just sounds like what has been used by our #1 instate recruit on us multiple times.

But Wilkes isn't an Illinois instate recruit, is he? I'm more interested in knowing what Wilkes considers to be the "little things." He said it would all come down to that.

Exactly. If the Goodwin recruitment didn't already paint that picture, not sure what will. Repeat after me: recruiting is fluid, and there are no guarantees :thumb:

What year does everyone say was the worst recruiting class for Illinois? Just killing time at the end of the work day ;)

No telling if it will end up being 100% accurate, but I heard Wilkes will be announcing his college choice early next week (if not sooner) from a guy on campus today that I trust. Not player on the team trust, but a solid source of info for me nonetheless...

Just thought I would share what I have heard with everybody... and man I sure hope it's true one way or the other, b/c I think all of us are starting to get exceedingly anxious as to how this all turns out!

Quickly looking through Rivals (which only dates back to 2002):

2005: Charles Jackson, Chester Frazier, Jamar Smith
2006: Brian Carlwell, Richard Semrau
2008: Stan Simpson, Dominique Keller
2012: nobody

Those 2005, 2006 and 2008 classes really set us back for years to come

05 and 06 were on the heels of our NC run, and our best haul is...Jamar Smith? Admittedly we got a little unlucky with him getting kicked off the team and IDKWTI, but, wow. Just wow. Not to beat a decade old dead horse, but talk about a squandered opportunity. Wow.

As much as I loved Chester, it still pains me to see how those post NC game recruiting classes turned out. We were coming off the highest of highs and BW just couldn't capitalize. If not for the Smith/Carlwell incident at least it might have turned out a little bit better, though. :tsk::(

Well, the second-highest of highs, anyway. The point stands, though.

The 05 class signed in Nov 2004, before that NC season started. The real disappointment to me was that we couldn't land a decent PG until the 2007 class. And then it took until 2011 to get another one.
