I honestly think him cutting the list and cancelling visits is a bad thing. Seems he may be set on IU if he doesn't want to look around anymore, but who knows.

If this was true wouldn't he just commit to IU?

Groce deserves this.....maybe nice guys can finish first

JCL and JTil are right up there w/Groce/Whitman on "deserving" on this one. JCL and Wilkes have known and played with each other since the 4th grade.

So, it's down to us and IU.

And surely, IU fans are saying its down to them and UCLA.

That's what would make his commitment even sweeter, knowing that they haven't respected Illinois being an actual contender. Hell, we have many Illinois fans that are saying we're not really a contender.

Decision coming shortly I'm told.

He cancelled his remaining visits and is down to the three finalists he has already visited, your response seems obvious at this point.

Well, IU was the last visit but it sounds like we may have had the last face time. So, either he wasn't sold on IU and Groce closed the deal, or he was and the kid and his family had enough class/integrity to tell Groce no to his face. I hope I'm wrong but I am leaning towards # 2. Whatever the kid decides I wish him well. Seems like he and his family are good people.

UCLA is too far away for family and their coach is a dick. IU has a coach named Clappy who could not keep it 100 if his life depended on it.

I have to think our chances are at least 30% here.

The great thing of flying under the radar on this one is avoiding the pending nut shot if he goes to another school. So much easier if he commits somewhere else.

Most of the chatter I'm hearing from other coaches and friends in Indy are that he is a mortal lock to IU. I personally don't feel that way and think UCLA or Illinois could pull off a stunner here but they know more about this than I do.

Just passing along what I'm hearing.

Symbolically, Wilkes committing to Illinois would be massive and oh, so sweet. For sheer entertainment, will be hard to top.

From a ball perspective, we're playing with house money. Don't have a pressing need for a 3. But, hey, while pie's a passing... And Wilkes is an awfully good slice.

When he first announced his 5 OVs and scheduled IU, Xavier, and UConn so far out I posted that the last two would be cancelled and IU would be moved up. I also thought that following his initial OVs he would get follow-up visits from UCLA and Illinois. All has happened and I think the announcement is now soon to follow.

I always thought it would be hard for him not to go to the home state school. I think proximity is important and I don't see any additional pull to UCLA besides it is LA/California. Getting him from IU to Illinois would be a major coup and turn of events.

Let's see here, do you want to play with JCL, Tilmon, and Nichols (one of your hosts)or Clifton Moore, Al Durham and Grant Gelon. Your choice.:)

I wonder if it the same instate bias that was reporting that Goodwin was a lock to Illinois. All the chatter had him as a silent verbal. Somebody even posted that Groce was pushing him to take his time that he was in a rush to commit.

Totally agree, but it would be nice to have him at the 3.

Usually when a player cancels his remaining visits . . . it is unfortunately the last visit that has sealed the deal.

Good sign that Groce was in to visit after the IU visit . . . but thinking IU on this one. Hope to be surprised . . .

^^^ Could be. But, I suppose it isn't a bias if that is where he ends up. Hard to say as of right now because we don't know what will happen. Though, it seems likely we have a good idea.
