They couldn't care less about Luther Head, Brian Cook and Frank Williams as they were in Kindergarten trying to color within the lines.

I would assume one recruit that is currently on our team remembers Frank pretty well ;).

But seriously, I pointed out those guys because I think the 15 year window you gave is too broad (which you apparently agree with), showing that we have had more than just two guys go first round. I'd argue the past 5 years are the most important and having only two current NBA players (I guess three now that BP is on the Spurs) isn't helping much.

It's funny how almost every opinion on this board gets ripped to shreds. Oh, you're an optimist? Come back to reality. Oh, you're a pessimist? Step off the ledge, the staff has only been here 6 months. You're somewhere in between??? What kind of a sports fan are you?!?! This is no place for reason!

So, that being said, wrt to the claims about the Flyin' Illini and some saying we aren't there - of course we aren't there. The broader point is that you don't always need height to be successful. Put THT defending CC down low, and I guarantee THT holds his own even though he gives up 5 inches and a whopping...wait for it...5 lbs. Obviously CC has more physical room to grow, but he'll never have the low center of gravity that a player like THT has. Those things matter, often just as much as height.

If - IF - we can furnish a future team where our smallest player is 6'0" (and a great defender) or 6'3", with potential lineups of two PGs that are 6'5", plus athletic wings, then our concern about a lack of depth at C should be tempered. In this offense, a guy like THT (again, an IF, I know) can be our PF - easy. The primary concern is depth at center for defensive reasons, yet the best defense is that which prevents the need for any shot blocking (i.e. great perimeter, on-ball defense).

We lambasted Ebo for his low rating when we recruited him, but CC's low rating is fine because we wanted him. How does this logic make any sense? Ebo might be just what we need two years from now, or he may be unserviceable and playing for Western Illinois. That doesn't matter in this context - it's the logic (or lack thereof) by which we judge the recruiting efforts (and outcomes) of our coaches.

This sky is falling attitude because we missed out on a guy most didn't want (Conditt) and a guy a lot did (CC) is ridiculous. Give the team and our coaches some time - then freak out if we have a rough season and miss out on Ayo and other recruits. There are too many unknowns at this point to speak with such certainty.

Ok, meandering rant over. Go back to posting so Dan can continue reaping the advertising money resulting from our crazed obsession with :illinois:

I've not heard that, but the way things are going, I'm not sure it matters. The biggest recruits Illinois is after are local (Ayo, Okoro, Liddell, Whitney, Miller). What's Antigua bringing to this staff? Maybe coaching bigs?!?

Haha...

I always get a kick out of overreactions.

Maybe we can beg to get Dustin Ford back.

I use to hate Michigan more, but I unfortunately really like Beilein . He's a heck of a coach and a generally likable guy. I just wish he didn't recruit and coach circles arounds us year after year.

Love people on here ripping the coaching staff for not getting more commits only being in on these guys for 6 months. Connections don't happen over night.

Well being a new coach hasn't seemed to get in the way for Will Wade or Chris Holtmann or Archie Miller just to name a few. We have 0 commits. That is just the numbers. And it isn't good. I am not here to give up on this staff at this point. That would be crazy. But it does seem crazy to sit around and preach patience all the time when the "quick fix" seems to there for all kinds of other schools who have hired new coaches.

I am actually glad Illinois did not get him. He was way OVERRATED. Saw him quite a bit last spring and was not impressed at all. I didn't think he could play in Big Ten than or now. We need guys that will play hard all the time and can dominate kids 1/2 his size which I never saw out of him. I truely believe we will look back and be thankful he did not come to U of I. I really think BU was just trying to get an inroad into Chicago area.

Well, Underwood wasn't happy if that means anything to you.

I hate them because they're everything I want Illinois to be.

I don't really get this. It's not like the signing period has come and gone and we have 0 commits. You don't get bonus points for finishing ahead of time.

STOP!!! STOP BEING RATIONAL!!!

A UM fan buddy of mine just texted me they currently have the #2 ranked class as of right now.
Worrying about having 0 commits and celebrating the current #2 class right now are in the same vein to me.

This won't be an issue this year. At least we have that.

Also, I hate Twitter and I hate single emoji tweets. I must officially be old.

Little Food for thought here:

Big Ten First Round Picks by School
2017 - Michigan, Indiana, Purdue
2016 - MSU, Michigan
2015 - OSU, Wisconsin (2)
2014 - Michigan, Indiana, MSU (2), Michigan
2013 - Indiana (2), Michigan (2)
2012 - Illinois, OSU
2011 - Purdue
2010 - OSU
2009 - OSU
2008 - Indiana (2), OSU
2007 - OSU (3), Wisconsin

I don't know if any particular Big Ten school is doing a fantastic job with developing first rounders. I doubt a lot of these recruits couldn't name a lot of these kids.

Landers Nolley is the highest rated of the players committing this week. I'll be concerned if we miss on him.

Get Nolley and Ayo -- then none of us will care about Castleton or Conditt.

I am not sure what all the hand wringing is about. We will be fine. Mav Morgan was the #1 center prospect in the state of Ohio. Took him alsmost three seasons to come into his own. Castleton is the #5 PF prospect in the state of Florida. The young man that announced for Iowa State will help that team when he is a junior or senior, if he is still there. Same for Castleton at Meatchicken. We have Finke and Black for two more years. We have top young guards that should be here for several years. Be patient. By the way, I would take Tim Finke in a minute. Really a good fit to the team.
