If we sign Nolley this fall, I will gladly say all you who think we should do this were right!!!

Same thing when if we sign 4 this fall. I will gladly say that the many who insisted we would sign 4 were absolutely correct!!!

I was one who thought we would sign 4, but after listening to BU lately he seems to really be stressing 3 so we will see, heck if we get AYO and THT iI wouldnt care if they held the other one back for 19

Bro if you read his problem was he couldnt close if he gets Snider,Brunson, or DJax he would still be here. You act like we were sorry. And he didn't leave the cupboard bare either with Frazier,Williams, and by all accounts had Mark Smith in the bag. You can say Groce wasn't a very good coach but the guy could recruit and got us in on top players. Imagine if Cliff Alexander picks us??? He was in on bigtime recruits. He just couldn't close or circumstance occurred beyond his control. Honestly Dustin Ford was his problem.

Although I do not want Ayo to make a rash decision. Today has the possibility of being such a huge day. I do envision Ayo coming here and being this generation's Frankie Williams leading our team to consistent winning on his way to the NBA. With teamwork & chemistry working with Mark Smith, D Williams, Frazier he could become this generation's Nick Anderson. Adding in extremely hard work in the gym he could become this generation's Dee Brown. The sky is the limit for this stud, in this offense, with this program and state needing something to believe in.
Today could be the day that he commits and we instantly become way closer to something great. I am confident he could make the NBA going to Wake, but he could achieve something here while having a good team around him that is unbridled because he is an Illinois boy and this is the most beloved.

Brunson did not have a Mark Smith here. He did not have a real offense here. The situations are different and more favorable to Ayo. This is a better fit. The table is set. Today could be the day.

Before Jalen left Villanova, he did tell Jay Wright that he was committing and set his announcement. As I wrote earlier, I have no idea why Henricksen would write an article concerning several people, knowing any or all of them could have denied it.
And he may have called the Temple coaches, but it wasn't while Jalen was at Villanova, the Brunsons had announced it was down to Illinois and Villanova shortly before the two visits, or shortly after the Illinois visit. My memory is a bit hazy and I'm too lazy to look it up this morning. At any rate Temple knew they were out before he went to Villanova.

OK, sucked in (to the Brunson article). Needless to say, that article is from the Brunsons' viewpoint. Think there's a fair degree of shading there. The main takeaway is that recruiting, particularly the end game/OVs, is highly emotional. Which means that anything can happen, especially with impressionable 18 YOs.

Seems like you're contradicting yourself. You have your account, I'm guessing second-hand, from Illinois sources, with their own version of how they felt they lost him. Henrickson had a personal/direct conversation with his dad. The two accounts differ....shocking.

In retrospect, playing for Wright over Groce seems like a pretty sound decision. The article is about as informative as it can be, considering there's not much to tell at this point, other than how the staff has done a lot of good things with this recruitment.

Soon (hopefully) we'll be celebrating a loaded backcourt at Illinois. I like the sound of that.

The reality is that we have a roster currently that has a tremendous amount of potential. One NBA-level talent recruit absolutely would elevate us to a top-of-B1G caliber team.

DaMonte I believe was a top-50 level recruit at one point before injuries. He hasn't been 100% in a couple seasons. He's the real deal. The rest of our freshmen have great athleticism and can play multiple positions. They will have to work hard constantly to earn minutes. Guys like Leron, Finke, and Jordan have never had any semblance of an offense to work in. Every player on this team will be much better this year and next year, that is an undeniable fact. Mark Smith does not have a ceiling; he's going to get better and better until he's in the NBA.

Barring transfer, injury, or someone leaving for the NBA early, the only player that we will lose after this year is Mark Alstork. Ayo is in a perfect position to come in and be the star on a very talented team; he'll have the support he needs to be excellent. I think we hit a homerun this week for his OV. He is the player that we need to be competing for B1G championships again.

Just a quick note here. I'm a nobody but I do some edits. It was telling that the previous 4 dudes that turned Illinois down did not like or retweet any of my Illini edits as they got closer to making a decision. Months ago they did like or retweet a few of them. But as they got closer to their decisions, nothing.

When they like or retweet something, it certainly doesn't mean they are coming here. When they don't do anything as they approach their decision it is telling to me.

That being said, Ayo has retweeted and liked a bunch of my stuff so far this weekend. I think that is nothing more than interesting and not a tell at all but much better than if he did nothing.

I agree with everything drewillini89 said except that Ayo is in position to be "a star" not THE star. This team has so much young talent that who can say which combination of players will emerge to become the Deron/Dee/Luther type stars? All I know is that the game has evolved to the point where having interchangeable players in an offense and defense like BU runs makes for exciting and, hopefully, winning basketball and Ayo could be the crucial addition to this group. Anyone else we get would just be icing on the cake. By the way, anybody been checking out the bakeries in Ayo's neighborhood?
