It has nothing about the Mount Rushmore of B1G. It is the current state of the B1G and the top 5 programs. You need to take your own advice, we have a good recruiting class, but let's not that out to be more than it is. It remains a big challenge to compete for B1G titles, let alone have multi-year consistency in that respect.

I absolutely do take my own advice. I am pretty consistent in my views. Only one more consistent is you being a pretty regular. I get pretty tired of people that try to box programs in. Have we had a big mediocre spell absolutely. Are we mired to that forever. Absolutely not and that goes for your Clay 5.

Now that being said I think MSU with Izzo in charge is in pretty good stead and I think Indy has had their nadir and is pretty good. But I don't think for a minute that Scum could not go through ups and downs and that Some of the past Kohl Magic may be just that. The Terps have had ups and downs too.

You're just one of those guys that has an answer for everything and usually a pessimistic one.

Dream Possibilty
2017
Javon
Damonte
Trent
Tilmon
Wilkes
Epperson
2018
Finke
because Wilkes would leave after one year.

I think we have a better shot with Wilkes than you think. Also have to guess JCL shows him around. And Javon , Damonte , and Tilmon will be here.

Finke will not be our 2018 recruit if we only take one unless Garland, Ramey, and Dosunmu all go else where I believe there is a couple others as well that we would rather take, but that's just my guess

Trouble is, that's a measurement you can only make post-hoc

That's true. But you need to be able to land some of them even though finding that talent or predicting the future is no easy thing.

Izzo's had 22 in about as many seasons. He's had a number of burger boys, but he's also had a number of guys like Valentine that were pretty far down the top-100
Just a quick look at a web site by school, I think Matta and Ryan were close to double digits. Crean and Painter have had a few. Beilein's done well also.

Hopefully Groce starts adding to it.

The kid who left South Florida last week didn't waste much time.

Cause he was not coming here to begin with.

& seeing this post, I see I kinda misread what Joel said in his response to me.. I'm not saying the media and insiders are wrong, and I don't think Scruggs was coming here either, but the chances were getting so much better the longer he hadn't committed anywhere and the closer his visit got. That's why I think there's more to this...

It was about Frazier and it probably had to do a little with class balance, but I have to believe it had more to do with one of these 2018 pg's b/c you just do not just pass or let alone pull out of a recruitment, on a player like Scruggs!

But maybe Joel is right, maybe I should just take it at face value :noidea:

Sure it was a vote of confidence for Frazier, however the news came after Ramey's visit not after Frazier's commitment and Ayo Dosunmo is visiting the day Scruggs was suppose to
Read into it what you want, but the decision with Scruggs is unrelated to Ramey. Dosunmu is visiting because we had an open recruiting weekend along with big time excitement surrounding the football home opener. Groce doesn't waste opportunities like that.

Nahhh recruiting is hardly ever face value... There is too much around this news to make it Just about Frazier

Frazier is a great player and great find. So happy he picked our team to lace them up. He fits John Groce game plan 100%.

Trent is our Guy-Illini Nation is all in all. Feeding a 5 star big man down low this is a dream coming true.

Yes....you should probably take it at face value and put down the Kool aid spiked with ever clear. Too many months between now and the 18s committing. Nothing's gonna happen this weekend with Ayo and I'm not an insider.....

They can have Garland. lol

'Bout time we slay them for Snider, yeah? (not blaming them, it was all Snider)

Nah, actually it was Lyle, he said the hooker they fixed him up with smelled or else QSnider would have been ours.

Until his success at Michigan, a criticism of Beilein was that he didn't always get the best out of his talent. It only takes a few good seasons to turn that perception around.

That's silly; he was always known as an over-achiever coach. Took a bunch of nobodies at West Virginia to the final four. The knock on him was he wasn't a good recruiter until very recently.

Here's a toughy for 2018 IF we have 2 open scholarships

Ramey/Gordon or Ayo/Shittu? I believe reading the thread as of late the more likely combo to pull off is the first one. Could be tough if Ayo wants to commit first if Ramey/Gordon is a combo deal.

Combo deals are rare. Would Ramey and Gordon like to play together? Probably. Perhaps even very much so. But combo deal? IBIWISI.

BTW, we don't need 2 open schollies to take 2 players. For a player of certain stature, we'll oversign.

You take Ayo, say thank you, and move on :)

There is absolutely no way that you turn down a commitment from any of Garland, Ramey, or Ayo for any reason. All very talented.

The class of 2018 is point guard heavy with floor generals all over the top 25

A lot, probably way too much, was made about a lack of top level point guards in the 2017 class nationally. One look at the class of 2018 and it is obvious that won’t be a problem. There are a host of top point guards, seven of which found their way into the top 25 in this class.

Article talks about all three of our 2018 PG targets!
