If they have an inhome on Monday, it will mean that Castleton didn't commit to Florida over the weekend. That's our best hope.

I dont know how much I read into the in-home visit. Sadly, depending on Dotson's visit with him, I could see both pulling the trigger in a few days. Maybe Dotson commits, which leads to Castleton staying open and allowing us the chance to sway him with the in-home.

Castleton will probably commit to us, be developed into a stud, then transfer to Florida when they finally want him because with the new rule he won't have to sit out a year.

Thankfully that's not going to come to fruition. If it did, I think that'd finally kill the NCAA. The Power 5 teams would be a totally separate "amateur" sports association than the other schools due to that rule and the eventual increasing of monetary assistance/payment to players.

I think it could actually be the opposite. Power 5 schools have the autonomy to do certain things. Maybe they'd use their autonomy to require a one year sit out period if a kid tranasferred p5 to p5. Allow the schools to retake control of the situation which is what they really want.

From what I have been told about this guy, I hate giving him any credit, but I don't see anyone else reporting this.

Ryan Evan @IlliniSwami

After watching Open gym #illini HC Brad Underwood is having an in home with 2018 versatile SF @_iggy_7 as i write this. Looking to seal OV

Well, if you have premium to other sites, it is almost word for word what I read there earlier. He may have the same source, I don't know, but he is definitely not first or the only one reporting this. The closeness to what I read earlier is interesting, though.

Sorry if I missed this already but Zion Griffin to Iowa State: could impact Conditt and THT recruitment.

It's interesting that Ayo's, Grandpa, is Dale Moss, who is the founder (1998) and owner of the Harlem Ambassadors. He recently stepped down from running them due to Parkinson's. He has literally been involved in every step of Ayo's development. Wouldn't it be cool to put Manny Jackson and Dale Moss together and talk about the "clown princes of basketball."
The Dosunmu contingent is, as understand, just huge. No way they want Ayo playing in California or North Carolina, but rather good old Illinois. Dale and his wife live in Waukegan and are members of a church in Lake Forest.
My buddy with the Chicago Alumni Association just texted me and said that Ayo will have an OV to C/U in a couple of weeks.

Hi, I'm with the "Chicago Alumni Association" (I think you mean Chicago Illini Club) - who are you referring to? This guy would typically be me. If you mean IFund, that is not part of the alumni association, but does have an office in Chicago.

You are correct! My son confirmed it is the Chicago Illini Club. Sorry for the confusion.

You understand this whole process!! Glad to see you survived Irma. Hope you didn't have any damage.

I survived but living out a hotel for a while. No power, water, phone or internet. Trees down on my property but none landed on my house. Thanks for the wishes.

I'm also not convinced Castleton is a lock for FL. Clearly, they have the best shot, but I won't be surprised if he goes elsewhere. As far as recruiting strategy goes, FL is bringing in two top pgs this weekend, along with Castleton . . . BU is putting it in overdrive, going hard for Iggy. I think Conditt is choosing early to nail down a spot. Looks like the other guys are holding out. We're headed for the final sprint in a crowded field.

Anyone else feel like Iggy is a long shot at best and perhaps this isn't the best use of resources?

Probably a long shot, but I bet many we feel like we have a great chance at, the staff considers long shots.

And I doubt the staff is overly concerned with resources available.

I think that Iggy is a longshot (Michigan bound). Staff must feel that given an OV, they will have a legit chance. As far as best use of resources? That's a bridge too far, IMO.

The staff has held in-homes/attended open gyms with Ayo and THT this week, and official visits for our other top targets (Conditt, Nolley, Castleton) were either recently or are upcoming. Why not spend some time with Iggy and try to convince him to take an official to C-U?

Yep, that one definitely did not work out the way JG & staff had hoped! Wilkes' parents were specifically not fond of Tilmon

Very interesting. I had not heard this. Wonder what it was about him. I do not know him at all of course but he seemed to get along well with Pickett and Smith.

With how all the visits have been reported, favorable by all kids, I would think why not take a shot with time to see if we can't capture this kind of kid.

It does not seem as if this staff is "whiffing" so far on supreme talent, rather selectively spending time on recruits they see to feel comfortable in possibly getting. So far the benefit of the doubt, they obviously get.:chief:

Orangeville coach tweeted this out last night. Iggy may be a long shot but if you can convince him to take an OV and win over the coach which would help with future kids, it's certainly not a bad use of resources.

Exactly. Plus, it's not as if we are neglecting our other recruits to go after Iggy. He would be a massive get for this team and is worth spending the time on being that we have been recruiting him for quite some time.

+1

Recruiting is fluid. The status of long shot can change in one day

BU must think he has a shot at Iggy or he wouldn't make the effort. All of the staff's efforts for 2017 are now concentrated on about 8 guys. They have the resources to do that with no problem. I'm not sure getting Conditt will influence any other player; getting one of the others might.

You go until they say no . Welcome to big boy recruiting !! We as fans need to take emotion out of it ( yea I know ....lol). BU and staff know what is up !!

Always got to have your options open in recruiting. Everyone thinks Iggy is Michigan bound, I would not be so sure about that yet. Let it play out, staff knows what they're doing.:shield:

Wilkes' parents had more issues with the staff than with Tilmon.

Both were issues, but we were running 2nd to UCLA the whole time anyway. Wilkes' wanted to go pro ASAP, and JG could not get him there.

Those days are long behind us!! BU will put players in the NBA.

How great is that? I don't recall ever reading something that bold and positive about John Groce from an outsider.

We have have zero 2018 commitments but I am 10X more confident in where this program will be in 2-3 years than I have been since 2006 or so. So glad we have BU on our sideline.

Perhaps not before he coached a single game for us, but there was buzz around the program after his first year. Its been said 1000000 times on this board, but I think remembering to temper expectations based on quotes is important.

Ah makes sense, thanks for the perspective! Creating positive relationships and in-roads is always a good thing.
