Liddell outside of Ubben. :shield:

Please Illinifans let him in!!! Not getting Bobby Frasor a good thing, he was an average college player. It would of been used against us, as we
could not develop MCAA. Not sure how he was ranked so high.

You never know. The women's player package deal/ influence. I guess DJax went to Notre Dame all because of Skylar Diggins.

Not even a package deal is the point I was making...just the fact that if Beal and EJ are friends...then both would seemingly have a better visit and enjoy being there more than without the other...now IF one or the other were to commit, then the uncommitted one might say...hey hanging out with them was pretty damn cool, and I could do that for 2-3-4 years...I choose ILLINI also! When you usually leave somewhere you have enjoyed, the memories last longer and are sweeter than say going somewhere that sucks....(cough Mizzou cough....)

Just for fun, let's list the Top 50 in-state recruits of recent vintage who were never rumored on this board to be signed, sealed delivered to Illinois.

Jahlil Okafor and Jabari Parker spring to mind. Charles Matthews. Was Sam Thompson top 50? We were never really in it with him.

It's a short list, is my point. Cliff Alexander is the modal outcome for an elite in-state recruit's relationship with U of I.
How about the kid from Rock Island that ended up at Stanford? Can’t remember his name offhand.

The story on Chasson Randle was that he was deeply committed to academics and was choosing schools based primarily on their engineering programs, his proposed field of study. This was a different sort of recruitment, there was just no way to compete with Stanford, said Loyalty at the time.

Chasson Randle graduated from Stanford in 2015 with a degree in African & African-American studies, and has bounced between Europe and the fringes of the NBA since then.

Please don't interpret that as any slight on Chasson Randle, who is both a terrific basketball player and by all accounts a very bright and civically-minded person. It's meant as a parable about college sports recruiting.

Not disagreeing with any of this. But Chasson Randle wouldn't be the first athlete who thought or was told he could play a sport and get an engineering degree, only to have the coaching staff steer him towards the African American studies, or a sociology degree once they get on campus. Tell them what they need to hear to get them on campus in the fall.

Possible the recruitment stories were correct at the time.
