He was a top 50 recruit right? 2 years ago we’d have been thrilled with him. The talent is there.Payne has played 15 minutes a game both his 2 seasons at Florida. 3.8 PPG, 3.6 Reb. I don't think he'd start over Giorgi, but is most likely an improvement over Hamlin/Lieb.
I was hoping we would get a PF that could hit a 15 foot shot (not a free throw) to open up the middle. Maybe it is coming later?I think if Kofi comes back Payne Giorgi, and Kofi would be a great 3 player rotation at the 4/5. Grandison will get more tic at the 3 and play the 4 only when we want to go small. With or without Kofi we needed bigger bodies.
He probably heard the Tre Mitchell rumblings and jumped on board first. Players will be racing to teams as rosters start filling up. If Kofi/Giorgi leave let's bring in both of them.
And Fletch too. He specifically mentioned Kofi's development as a key consideration.Just read that in Kofi's class, Payne was ranked as a center right between Drew Timme and Kofi.former fringe 5* recruit. let’s see what OA can do with him
Same class as Kofi. He has up to 3 years of eligibility left. Plenty of time to work on his offensive deficiencies.Payne will be listed as a Junior but with 3 remaining years of eligibility due to COVID year, correct?
Diggin' on James BrownAlso hearing good things about a Chicago player (believe it or not) named James Brown! #1 in state for 2024.
Think about this, I am looking forward to him playing in East Lansing and Columbus. With a little assist from Curbelo he should be getting a lot of dunks. If Kofi comes back they play volleyball underneath.I know someone posted something similar but I hope the staff checked out his maturity but also it's not like we have all choir boys either. Damonte threw an elbow an McCaffrey last year but missed. Whether we should be happy or sad the he didn't connect is up for debate
Welcome to the Fighting Illini!! Recruiting aligned with elements of our brandTyty's sucker punch in the handshake line ranks right up there!!
I approve this post!
