Staff knows a boatload more than the fanbase. Our staff has provided little reason to doubt their decisions. If they want Bass, they'll take him. And, FWLIW, we should be fine with that.

That said, if we get another guard, the writing is on the wall. Also, if it's true that we haven't had a presence at any of his later games (save for Epps' team), that may be a tell.
I agree with this. Brad talks about the culture they have built. I would doubt that they didn't do their homework before offering and then taking Bass.

As far as I am concerned, Bass is an Illini until he isn't and I would guess the coaching staff feels the same. I can't see them running the young man off. What I can see is him seeing them recruit over him and he decides to leave for potentially more playing time. But that is true of every player on our roster.

Important to note that when he was offered and committed it was impossible to see kids live, for like over a year. It was prime Covid time

The flip side is that staff knows who's a baller (don't need no stinkin' ratings). There's zero chance they would have let him commit if they weren't sure he was a take (at the time). And his play since then backs up their view.

He's played well this summer, no doubt (well minus the Epps game, lol). He is definitely P5 level. But having offered and committed before ever seeing him live there are certainly things they discovered after doing so. Add to the fact that they made no effort to watch him in July and the fact that he was an Antigua recruit... take with that what you will

interesting discussion. wondering if others here would feel the same about possibly "cutting ties" if it was Epps that was yelling at teammates

I've never known an organization that treated everyone the same regardless of performance. High performers always get more latitude, and a well run organization will invest more time and effort in them to max their potential.

If you're a cynic, you look at it and say there are 2 sets of rules, one for the insiders, and one for outsiders. And if the organization is corrupt, it's probably unfair how the rules are bent for the insiders. But it's how life works pretty much everywhere, and it's better to realize that. It's especially true in super-competitive fields like sports. If you're working in the public sector, maybe things are more universally applied, and a star worker will get treated the same as everyone else. Even there, you usually run into politics and corruption that creates noticeable differences. The best you should expect IMO is honesty about how the organization will treat you. It's usually poor communication and unrealistic expectations that are the seed for bad blood.

Not every situation works out, but as an observer, Underwood gets it. He preaches relationships, seems to know how critical it is to communicate, advocate, and still be forthright about how things work in a very, very competitive business/sport that has a lot of unwritten rules due to the way the sport has been run by the NCAA. I feel like we've got a heck of a leader steering the program right now.

I believe it is 5 total in general
It's hard to find lol. However here: https://www.ncsasports.org/ncaa-eligibility-center/recruiting-rules, if you scroll down to Divison 1 Men's basketball it states:

August 1 of junior year: Recruits can begin official visits, with a maximum of five total official visits during the junior year, with only one official visit per school. An additional five official visits may be taken between the day of completion of junior year and October 15

The basketball program also has a limit on number of OVs they can host during a 2 year period. Spending 2 on Corhen is big and hopefully leads to a commitment on his visit
