Well this isn't totally accurate .....we had a young man (6'11") that played high school ball and then went onto a Division II school and did quite well there...he wound up playing in Europe right after graduating from college....think he played 10-11 years....last year was his last....think he made somewhere in the $200-250 thousand per year range his last few years....but he started out below $100 thousand for the first few years...he might have been the exception but that's the way it worked for him
I don't see how that's different than what I'm saying? Was it the lower level leagues thing? I didn't mean that to be not Europe. Every country in Europe has its own league, and there is a range of quality, with Euroleague, Spain, Italy, Turkey being at the top. Leagues like Germany, Russia, Israel, Greece at a lower (but still good) level, and other leagues below those as well. I don't think Kofi (or any American college player) starts out at a top league or makes more than like $150k to start. He probably makes more starting out than your guy did, just based off his resume, but not an insane amount more.

The transfer's name I mentioned has not gotten out there for one main reason-Think about what happened with the whole EJ Lidell situation when Loren said something about it. Staff was not happy and any slim chance of that happening was gone after that..

Watched Fears vs Oak Hill on tv. Nice passer. Was 3-9 shooting when I turned off. Tough one to lose.

Program visibility: small potatoes compared to what we're reaping from Ayo (and Gill), but hats off to Trent Meacham. He's done well as an analyst. Pretty articulate and comfortable on camera. Definitely has a good future in broadcasting, IMO.

Kofi's NIL figures are insane...

Going a long way with the Boswells of the world and a transfer that's all but signed up.

Anybody have an official school year to date number in Kofi? I’d settle for reasonable rumors and accounting estimates.

Not that Tony Bradley is a slouch, but there isn't nothing that he can do on the floor in an NBA game that Kofi couldn't easily do.
Bradley played decent last night, but he couldn't catch a cold earlier in the year. It got so bad, I was on the Demarcus Cousins bandwagon for a minute. Then even though I'm still upset with his college choice, I was rooting for Tyler Cook to get more minutes. Ill have to check to see if the Bulls have a second rounder this year to pick Kofi.

This probably isn't the right thread for King Kofi's draft prospects and I'm sorry. I just used Tony Bradley as an example, because most are now watching the Bulls. I know TB doesn't play alot, but that doesn't matter for TB or any other NBA"ers in his type role pocket book. They all want to play, I get it. Aside from shot blocking, only because they will pull Kofi from the rim, Kofi is every bit the player TB is on this level. Longer wingspan, 60 lbs heavier, more athletic, and he runs. I think TB is great at running as well and spacing. I actually think Kofi is more around the Steven Adam's mold. With all that said, Kofi for year 4.

This kid played in Denmark and it was with the first or A team....he became one of the best players (rebs, scoring, blocks) on his team....just pointing out that he played for several years and I believe his top earnings were in that $250 thousand range....not bad but not anywhere near NBA levels....we're good....hope Kofi sticks for 1 more year and that it pays big dividends both for him and us.

A co-worker of mine is a close relative of EJ's. He told me the Liddell family has no idea how the transfer rumor got started. Maybe it started here?

Yeah, I mean that just supports what I've been saying, that Kofi's potential earnings in Europe are not what some make it out to be. I think G league salaries have gotten a little better to the point he probably takes a little less to play there in the hopes he gets a 10-day somewhere. Either way, it is certainly possible, depending on what is going on with his NIL earnings (which we don't really know) that going pro would result in a pay cut

I would guess it would come down to motivation for Kofi. Should playing and playing time be the reason he suits up and the NBA is still hesitant, then a 4th year at Illinois makes a ton of sense. Get more feedback this year. Aside from paying taxes here, he'd probably make more playing at Illinois than in Europe his first year. After next year, you still have NBA hopes and that European money isn't going anywhere.
If I'm an NBA Gm, I'm giving Kofi a shot. If Ayo is any indication of the type of Dawgs Illinois is producing, I'm in.

You really think he is coming back for a fourth year? Ayo surprised the hell out of me when he came back for year 3, but COVID is the reason. In my opinion, Kofi has improved more than Ayo did. Kofi's game is an endangered species in the NBA but he has improved greatly from conditioning, to being able to catch and finish in traffic, footwork, free throw shooting. I could say more. It will be interesting to keep track of.

I was joking, but gum to my head: If he's assured that he'll get drafted, no. Otherwise, probably a 50/50 deal (and that includes the back of the 2nd round most likely). An awful lot hinges on NIL Hopefully, a good deal better than 50/50. Our conference brethren are going to love it.

As others have pointed out, the bond between Papi and Kofi could be huge here.

Is it Michael Jordan? Has a year of eligibility left and wants to show these young punks at 60 he can still school them. Or perhaps, shudder to think, Larry Bird himself just bombing baseline jumpers and talking trash.

I hope you are right, To date, however, he has trouble just balancing the budget.
I don't disagree that there are budgetary concerns. But what's with your predilection with being a stick in the mud?

Oh sure, nobody likes gum in their hair, but what would you say if you faced any real threat? 🤪
