With Epps next year and Belo for 2 more years he doesn’t seem necessary although a nice piece. Think a team of Belo, Podz, RJ, Hawk, and Dain could be pretty competitive. Luke, Ben, Omar, Sencire, and Ty off the bench gives a lot of depth although not close to the experience of this year’s team but longer and very athletic.
Boswell would be an exceptional piece not "nice". If you're looking for a title you need guys like that

As you said the other players make us a "pretty competitive". I'm hoping for more so let's get players like Boswell.

Self has won only won 1 Championship at Kansas, correct?
he should have zero. There were multiple player violations on that team. For example Darrell Arthur's high school had to vacate wins, but his college was fine for taking an ineligible player. Of course that was the year that both teams in the title game should have been disqualified so the NCAA was in a bind of their own making.

Missing on Boswell is not going to matter in the long run
I appreciate the optimistic outlook, but this is ridiculous statement.

Of course it matters, he’s a top 30 player. This year is plenty proof that you need talent on the roster and down the bench when fluke injuries and illness happens.

Boswell is the type of talent that makes a first weekend team and second weekend team, and so forth. Brad & co are great at spotting talent and developing it but eventually we will need to land some 5 star recruits to reach the promise land.

But in this alternate history we are creating, DRose would have been repping the Beloved and playing for Self, so it cancels each other out and and gives Illinois our 2nd natty. Isn’t that how this works?
Its my opinion & I stand by it. I still hate Bill Self for leaving, But I think that we would have had many more national 5 star recruits and owned Chicago recruiting for 2 decades. That coupled with our fan base, facilities, & Crush would have led to Championships.

There seems to be a few teams that are immune to such punishment. KU being one.

If Self had stayed we would be looking at multiple Final Fours with several championships.
Yeah- I am not sure how you say that. He went to Kansas has won 1 championship with all the advantages of being at Kansas. And we know that Adidas was certainly helping out with recruits. So I think the idea that we wins multiples at Illinois is really just inflating the "what could have been"...

Oh come on, can't leave us hanging what is the "+more" It's loyalty after dark time, spill it.
Lifelong Illini fan & first time having a source on a real recruit that I would consider an "insider."

KB has been wined & dined by Arizona for a year via AZ Compass Prep. He's had access to players, even some NBA players down there (super connected). Illinois, the midwest and B1G were never serious options for him but his mom, in particular, wanted him to seriously consider it. Dad (Brandon) doesn't care as long as KB is happy.

Rumor is that yes, AZ's NIL "promise" was much higher than ours because we're already (likely) over-promised to Kofi/Belo/Epps & Rodgers. And the Boswells wanted $250K cash up front.

Whitman took a pass

I actually pretty much agree. The guy has won the Big 12 fifteen times, including fourteen straight. Not that far fetched that the Illini bring home the 05 Natty with CharlieV and win another afterwards with that momentum coupled with the dominance Self has showed at Kansas.

Guenther wouldn't have allowed Self to buy players. Brandon Rush and Derrick Rose would never have gotten into the UofI.

I believe so. I remember there being an overhead picture of the championship game with a comment made about Kansas players and the allegations of recruiting violations about each.

Dai Dai is very good. My only complaint on him is it looks like he isn't going 100% all the time. Could just be appearance of course.

If we get him, we shouldn't feel awful about missing on Boswell. Boswell is better, but it is not a head and shoulders better thing. I think Boswell is head and shoulders better than Fears, but Ames is better than Fears.

Looks like through 15 games, Ames has had some injuries, he's shooting 65% from the field, 51% from 3, and 83% FT. Having a base level of quality shooting is huge. I also think his shooting can be improved. He doesn't get much rotation on the ball. I think he can be a 40%+ 3 point shooter in college and 80%+ FT shooter.
