Questioning the AD about about much he was willing to spend on a recruit. Your thought process is correct. Just never occurred to me that the NCAA and recruiting would ever get to the point, where this is an above the table discussion. It really is sad.
Y’all realize the school itself doesn’t actually pay recruits and athletes, right? Technically, the school can’t promise anything vis-a-vis “pay for play” either. I’m sure there are gray areas they can (and do) work around, but this is still technically against the rules. That doesn’t mean they can’t show what the current athletes have earned through NIL though. But it doesn’t make sense that an AD would say that certain money is earmarked for specific athletes. The selling point would always be that the proof is in the pudding.

Wasilla Alaska played in the Collinsville holiday tournament this year. Believe me, you really don't want to take many players from Alaska

Alaska has a lot of basketball talent. Problem is a lot of them are 5'6" Inupiat. Basketball is THE sport in rural Alaska. The only high level D1 talent from Wasilla was a gal that played on UConn's women's championship teams.
Alaska does produce some D1 talent, but most of them have to leave and go outside to play in AAU and bigger high schools. Kamaka Hepa, first at Texas and now Hawaii, came from Barrow, a town of 6,000 or so and 200 miles from the nearest road. Played his senior year in Portland. Tough to get playing time against good competition here. He is 6-10 (only part Inupiat) and has made 40% of his 88 3pt attempts and shot 79% from the line this year. We could use him.

Williams was from Oklahoma, Trajon Langdon, also a Dukie, might be who you’re thinking of? He grew up in Anchorage.
