I think you’re right. And with Podz being only player from WI, Goode only player from Indiana and Kofi only player from Jamaica, it makes little sense for them to stay. Maybe they’re leaving too.
i see what you did there cas GIF

Why would you ever think this? 😵‍💫

A lot of it is PTSD from finishing second for 10 years too though.
Unlike during the Groce and Weber years, I am not too concerned about whether we get Skyy, TSJ or our other Plan A choices. That would be awesome, but also pretty high expectations. Over his time here, BU has demonstrated, and unfortunately has had to demonstrate, that he has solid Plans B, C, etc., and thar he can execute upon them. If the past is any indication, finishing second to our preferred targets is not a death knell like it has been in the past.

Does "We have not made any decisions yet" not inspire a ton of confidence for anyone else?
What would you say if you were in his shoes? If you were a parent meeting with a coaching staff to hear their pitch for why your child should stay. Even if you are leaning towards staying, you want them to convince you so entering it with a "we already made a decision" mindset wouldn't help.

I've never entered any meeting and publicly announced to the media "I made a decision already". By all accounts, RJ seems to be leaning towards staying and that is the most important. Reading into every word people say is just gonna have you spinning.

This whole portal thing has to be exhausting for the coaching staff. It's like you have to recruit all 13 kids every year instead of just 3-4 new ones.
So … just like the business world. Gotta keep your employees happy.

Both RJ and his father have been heard from in the past hour, subsequent to the portal rumor, and neither definitely said “RJ is staying at Illinois” or words to that effect. This suggests to me that the staff has at least some work to do.

There are enough major differences that I have trouble using the overly simplistic "its just like [this]" comparison. But yes, now that student athletes have unrestricted opportunities to move around after every season, the coaching staff must work harder at retention than they did before.
