I know this...I rushed yesterday to get Illinois for National Champs at +5000 before any more announcements come in and those odds get chopped by 2/3.

I'm a bit surprised Hutch hasn't gone in the Portal already... unless after 5 years and all the injuries he is just done with the college life and ready to move on. I would think he wants to play somewhere with the COVID year, and I'd imagine he could get a Medical Hardship Waiver to maintain 2 years of eligibility.

What was Illinois' pitch and what are your thoughts on their offering?

“My scoring ability and the way that I facilitate the offense [stood out to them]. I was very excited, I was on the way home from the trip, and my dad called and said I got the offer, and I was just super excited because of how big their program is.”

What do you know about them?

I know that they are one of the biggest programs in college basketball. They put Ayo Dosunmu in the league last year. A couple of years ago, Leron Black, who’s from my hometown in Memphis, committed there. They are just a great program.”

Thanks again, Ayo. Shoutout to Leron too!

As I said when he transferred, you simply have to look at other message boards’ reactions to the news to know other teams’ fans are WAY harder on Andre than we are.

We as fans know almost nothing about what really goes on with Our Beloveds. Whomever They may be.

We see the end product on the floor. But we did not see these guys growing up. We do not know what they are going through right now off the floor. We know almost nothing about their personal life and what their life concerns and personal issues are. We don’t see the team practices (except for a lucky few). We see maybe about One Percent of Their entire life (on the game floor) and we make all kinds of judgments from that.

In what other business or part of life can you successfully look at 1% of the total package and make useful assessments?

Yes, we all can and do come to opinions about what we see on the floor. But do we know if a guy is sick or ailing? Do we know if he has a personal issue weighing on his mind? Do we know what he is physically capable of on a basketball court? Do we know what his true ceiling is?

We are going to criticize because it goes with the business. And players have a duty to allow fans to have their say. But the bottom line is that we all need to be mindful of what we are saying about someone and why. We have to have a good dose of humility. If we truly care about a Team, we treat that Team like a member of our own extended family and use a good dose of respect and support. And criticism... out of caring.

I think most Illini fans measure up pretty well on this score.
