So, Friday has been mentioned as a day to look for an announcement from Kofi. Of course none of us thought it would take this long either so I don’t take anything as gospel. If Kofi knows he’s not getting drafted, would he not still have the opportunity to work for a spot on a G-League team without entering his name in the draft. He’s said many times he want to go professional and overseas is an option. My only point being, if he announces he’s back I’d think he’s done pursuing pro ball for this year. If he just says he’s not entering the draft, he still has many options on the table. That’s my paranoia working I suppose.
This is the real reason Dan makes a new recruiting thread everyday, to save us from ourselves. Can we all agree to stay focused and on topic in this thread?!?
Who am I kidding? This is Loyalty.
As far as I am concerned if he makes around a million dollars playing college hoops he is a pro. He isn't getting paid to for being a student but to play for the Illini. NIL and college hoops is just his best option to make the most money. I think he comes back since it's involves the least risk and is the most financially rewarding option. The good thing is we won't have to wait it out like last year and will still have some good options. The rumor is he can make a lot more in NIL money than turning pro.
Not sure why you would pursue a professional career while ruling out the top level of professional basketball and not enter draft. I guess your thought process is entering name into NBA draft is only thing that would preclude him from playing college another year. I’m not sure that is true. I believe the G League populates teams with first year players through a draft of its own as well as affiliations with NBA teams. Plus even if not drafted in NBA draft, I’d think the pre-draft workouts and interviews would be key to securing a spot on a summer league team, which would be key in securing an NBA free agent spot on full roster, a good draft position in G League draft, and/or a job overseas. Throw in the fact that it is being reported Kofi can earn more in college than he’s likely to make in his first year as a professional (unless he is chosen high enough in NBA draft), and I think you’re safe to assume if he doesn’t enter draft he’ll be in Illini uniform next year. So, Friday has been mentioned as a day to look for an announcement from Kofi. Coincidentally, Eastern Orthodox Easter is this coming Sunday, so yes, two Good Fridays in a row this year.So @LvilleILL / @DB11Headband / @illini0440, are we looking at our second Good Friday in a row? Or is another resurrection of Kofi's Illini career one miracle too many?
