What’s wrong with the man wanting more? The revenue he brings far outweighs what he’ll be getting paid.

There's nothing wrong with wanting more ... His "circle" though ...

Are players allowed to hire agents for NIL purposes while still in college?

As LvilleILL mentioned, Ayo coming to play at Illinois is likely one of the biggest recruits we've ever gotten. He is likely top-3 all-time, as far as program-changing. I'd throw out a couple of other names...Eddie Johnson was a program changer for Henson, and Dee Brown was the same for Self. There are higher-ranked recruits than those two, but when they arrived sets them apart.
I had the pleasure of day drinking with Dee the other Sunday, by pure dumb luck. He even made the point that when he committed, we had just been to the Elite Eight … Ayo really stuck his neck out.

There will likely never be as much of a true Illini legend for me as Dee Brown, but I think Ayo committing was more crucial for the time.

No school is going to match what Illinois is offering.....and sometimes the antics go a little far and annoy the wrong people.
Hope something can be worked out … I’ll be ecstatic if Kofi is back and I’m totally at peace if he goes pro. However, playing at another school over marginally more (or, even worse, the same/less) NIL money would cut deep and really tarnish the great times Kofi has had here.

Given his past quote about being loyal to Illinois or going pro, I hope he knows that deep down and either comes back where he knows he’s a legend or moves on to his professional career.

As far as I am concerned if he makes around a million dollars playing college hoops he is a pro. He isn't getting paid to for being a student but to play for the Illini. NIL and college hoops is just his best option to make the most money. I think he comes back since it's involves the least risk and is the most financially rewarding option. The good thing is we won't have to wait it out like last year and will still have some good options.

Any news on Hutch or Jake?
I don't know if he can get a Mil, but I have seen written and heard on podcast from our Media that they ann believe it is greater than $500K. Lets say he makes $600K and his cut is $500, That is life changing $ for 1 yr at age 22. If you Invest $300 wisely, you are reall setting yourself up for long term financial security/comfortable life. If all he does is make $50 - $150K / year for his basketball career (this is worst case scenario right?), the first year of NIL will have him set for life. If he goes pro and only makes G league and makes an average salary, lets say $70K, that is a below middle class life style. Not Taking a $600K, 1 yr deal is a BIG gamble.

So, tax day just went by us this week. Were NIL earnings reportable for 2021?

And that’s with a 3-game suspension and time out vs. MSU and Maryland?? Come on, Kofi
I'm a Kofi fan. But re: that three-game suspension, shouldn't Illinois compliance office have been more on the ball and advised him about NCAA rules at the time?
It's history, but there might've been no need for the suspension. Wish Kofi well.

(NCAA is screwy)

Kofi also has to be a little more dedicated to improving his game. Love the kid but he isn't doing everything he can to maximize his ability.
Yikes. I don't see him day-in-day-out, but could this be a residual mentality with receiving some big $$$ (NIL) and being the big man on campus (literally)?

I think he has at least potential for improvement in these areas:

Passing out of the post
Mid range jumper
FT shooting
Perimeter defense
PnR defense

No, he has never been a fan of off season workouts and or putting in a little extra work from time to time.

i'm at peace with whatever Kofi decides is best for him. Want him back because I think he keeps us more nationally relevant in the short term but him leaving would likely expedite BU transitioning to a more up tempo, slashing style, which seems to be the way of most final four teams these days

Agreed that it would be most painful to see him playing for another college team, and it would be very illinois for the first consensus first team all american to transfer to be an illinois player, but i'm even at peace with that. Kofi owes us nothing at this point imo
