Today is the last day to pull out of the NBA draft. Next Sunday is last day to enter the portal. Expect a lot of names to be thrown around this week, but I’m not sure how many actual commits will take place that quickly.

It will be the week of "interest," "booms," "locks," and .gifs inferring things that may or may not mean something. I can't wait!

today is the last day to declare for the draft. June 1st is the deadline to withdraw and retain college eligibility.

So we are returning 1,274 total minutes from last years team (Coleman, BBV, lieb, RJ, Goode). Which is 19% of total minutes. Meaning we are losing 81% of minutes played last season. Outside of LSU I believe that that is lowest in P5. We return 381 total points scored, which is 15% of scoring. Meaning we lost 85% of our points scored.

I get that people are high on the freshman. But this is worrisome to me. Experience wins in college. And we have lost so much. We shouldn’t be getting picky in the portal. We just need to land some guys. The staff did this “we feel confident, will wait for nba fallbacks and know what we are looking for” last season and we ended up with Plummer and Payne. Neither nba prospects. Both were flawed players, especially Payne. I just hope the staff ain’t waiting around to pounce. Because boy are we young.

Plummer was one of the better portal gets of the season, and we wouldn't have won the B1G without him. Not even close. So not sure I understand the anxiety here.

Plummer, despite his evident flaws, was one of the best portal pickups of last year. A hired gun hand that you try to hide on defense.

I’m fairly certain the coaches are aware that the team needs some veteran leadership and stability. Hang tight.

W/O Plummer we would have been about 12-8 in the BIG, good for 6th or 7th place and probably an 8 or 9 seed. After all he was the leading 3 pt shooter in the BIG.

Plummer was okay, not arguing that. Even tho he was a liability on defense/the boards and had 43 TOs to 35 AST. He was still a good sharp shooter replacement. Payne was awful. And he was picked as the kofi replacement. Imagine if we had to role him and BBV out there all season. They were fine players. But were either of them nba combine types? Not really. And we were told to wait for others to leave the process and we’d make a run at them (Dawson Garcia, etc). I just think that one in hand is better than 2 in the bush at this point. I’m worried about the staff being overly confident when they have never landed an elite level transfer. Do you really think losing 80%+ of both scoring and minutes isn’t worrisome?

I prefer "uncertain" over worrisome. Agree on ideally mixing in experienced transfers.

This will be a significant test of BU and staff's ability to rapidly integrate new members and freshmen into starting lineup. BU Illini era hasn't seen this level of production turnover yet.....year 1 was likely close, and was complicated by installing his new system.

All that said, lot of talent but I do see uncertainty, and as a fanbase we will need to be patient (not sure that's possible though:)

I agree this is going to be a challenge but personally think that it’s less difficult than year 1 and changing the defense. Probably around as difficult as adapting the O to Kofi’s strengths.

The top part is a good summary. But keep Plummer’s name out your post… ;) /s

Plummer was a stud for us, and probably represents a substantial portion of the points that we got from the portal, last minute.

Grandison was another portal snatch, I don’t recall the timing but trust the staff is already putting a list together.

Experience wins in college?

Duke, Kansas, Kentucky and UNC didn’t get the memo with rosters full of one and done talent

"Okay"?! Sheesh
Also, while Payne didn't set the world on fire, without him we lose at Nebraska and say bye bye to the B1G title.

Judge the roster in August. Relax

(note... even in August the team is going to be young. Sometimes that's unavoidable. Luckily, we have reloaded with a top-10 recruiting class and have some younger players that are primed to breakout. Elite programs reload, don't rebuild. While there will certainly be growing pains, we are now in that category.)

I used to think this too. I’ve shifted my philosophy to experience wins early, talent wins later. Obviously experienced talent be your best bet, but true talent doesn’t stay long enough to get experience.

I use the big ten as my example. Usually an older and more experienced conference. Usually pretty good early. Get some teams ranked really high, win some big games on big stages. Then, as we’ve seen at tournament time recently, the talented teams that were younger and inexperienced early are now more tested. The B1G teams start to fall to the more talented teams that just needed time to get right.

Looks like the holdup for TSJ to UM is a roster spot. UM has like 15 or 16 commits/returnee's. Sounds like somebody needs to be Creaned.
In no surprise, Dennis Gates is taping his old MIF contacts and Miller may end up at Missouri.
