yuri collins stays with st louis. declined NIL from TN. Love it, and would love to see the Billikens have success in the dance next year

not that I'm opposed to NIL benefits, just not when it's for that sole purpose

I’d argue we’re gonna be more talented and versatile next year…..

Yes, on both counts.

The Illini were two different teams in the last years...one when Kofi was on the floor and one when he wasn’t. And when defenses took Kofi out of the game when he WAS on the floor, the Orange were always playing four on five on the O side. And they lacked the mid-range shooting to compete in those circumstances.

When Kofi wasn’t on the floor, the team had trouble shifting into the “Non-Kofi” offense. When they were hitting the Threes, they were successful. When they weren’t, they struggled. And the Illini Three-point shooters tended to be streaky both when they were on and when they weren't.

And the quick-change shifting from one Illini team to the other on the floor in-game was not always smooth and easy.

So, the Illini Versatility will be more seamless this coming season with players that look like pieces that will fit and match better overall.

And talent wise? Sure looks like they’ve got that coming on.

And as for the ‘lack of experience’... when you are in the heat of battle it comes down to who is playing hard and hitting their shots and who isn’t. An on-floor comparison of resumes usually does not win many games. Ballers just know how to play regardless of how young or not they are.

Stopped reading after this. Some of the takes on here are getting absolutely absurd.

Actually, illini0440 suggests that the deadline doesn't leave them out of transferring entirely, so not so simple. Unless he's wrong.
What's his percentage? 😉 sorry my answer came out snippy..BB

Said this a few weeks ago and 100% agree
I want to believe this but I’m just not seeing it.

Super Senior Frazier >> Freshman Skyy (Skyy probably has a higher ceiling but to expect him to outperform Frazier in year one is not realistic.)

Plummer > whoever we are putting out there at the 2. (Plummer was one of the best transfers we have had in recent memory.)

Ty = DMW (Ty is probably worse defensively, and better offensively?)

Soph Hawkins < Junior Hawkins (hopefully)

Kofi >> Dain. (Kofi was a 2 time all American and averaged 20 and 10)

Obviously, hoping for a big jump for both Goode and Melendez. But, fact is both of those guys didn’t get big minutes on last year’s team.

I think people are really underestimating the quality of last year’s big ten co-champion roster… Underwood needs to land at least 2 BIG TIME transfers to say that this years roster is more talented IMO.

Plummer was okay, not arguing that. Even tho he was a liability on defense/the boards and had 43 TOs to 35 AST. He was still a good sharp shooter replacement. Payne was awful. And he was picked as the kofi replacement. Imagine if we had to role him and BBV out there all season. They were fine players. But were either of them nba combine types? Not really. And we were told to wait for others to leave the process and we’d make a run at them (Dawson Garcia, etc). I just think that one in hand is better than 2 in the bush at this point. I’m worried about the staff being overly confident when they have never landed an elite level transfer. Do you really think losing 80%+ of both scoring and minutes isn’t worrisome?
I will take an ALL - BIG 3rd Team in the transfer portal every year, despite some flaws. but maybe that is just me...

Why is Ty penciled into the starting lineup instead of RJ lol

Melendez has potential but is unproven as a big ten player. If he were much better than DMW, he would’ve played more last year.

Ty is also unproven at this point. So, you can substitute Melendez for Ty, but my original point still stands.

At the collegiate level, he's done far more than the incoming freshman lol. Also is definitely a more complete/ready player than Ty. Could very well be our best player next season.

I like Melendez and I think he showed potential. But, we are talking about a player who averaged 3.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.7 assists last season...

If he is our best player this year, it’s gonna be a rough year.
