Because of one public deal? Maybe the difference in spending isn’t far off, but you’re kidding yourself if you think the Miami alumni are more invested in their basketball program than we are. Regardless of their lack of football success recently, that’s a football school through and through. And again, plenty of reports Kofi made off better than 400k last year. Other guys definitely had some good money coming in.

It’s short sighted to see Pack sign a 2 year 800k deal and immediately say we’re being outspent.
Well, you're putting words in my mouth. I never said their alumni were more invested in BB than we are. My point is that their alumni overall are probably giving more than ours.

I don't think the Pack deal was a good deal and never said so.

I don't know what your definition of "good money" is, but Kofi, Curbelo, and Damonte were the only notable ad campaigns. It's very unclear how much we can put forward in NIL money. And it's unclear how we'll stack up with others.

Our alumni base definitely has the cash. I haven't seen much evidence of it being spent.

Kofi was offered close to a million most likely
Kofi was first team all american on B10 champions. Pack was starting PG for 14-17 KSU who failed to make the NIT and coach was fired.
Please link to article with Kofi's NIL $ or any article for Illinois athletics that gives actual $ amount.

In terms of the level of talent that is now infused into the program, our DOWN years will now be 10-12 wins in the B10 with a low-seed tournament appearance at WORST. Book it. It's a different level than the Groce and end of Weber years. Get that out of your brain.

Dude....you can't post a "walk in-walk out" .gif....and then just stay in.

This is a blatant violation of .gif protocol...and quite possibly upends the Board Time .gif Continuum.

I recommend a funny entrance .gif to let the board know you have properly walked back in to post. /s

Come on, things don't have to be "bad" to accept that we're not going to get every player that our staff would like to have and just because a player doesn't end up here that doesn't mean that the staff must have not been interested. Some people sound like Kentucky fans that are out there saying Skyy was told to get lost and that there wasn't a scholarship available for him anymore... There is a healthy middle ground from "panicking" and realizing that there are players from the portal that have decided to go elsewhere that would have been very nice to have and that our staff would have likely wished to grab. We aren't going to get every player we/the staff want...

And of course, I understand that we don't have Brad Underwood's master list of targets. If a coach ever released their "top 10" wish list, that would be recruiting suicide.

I'm on your side that people are overreacting heavily here, but just curious, how come TSJ wouldn't be classified as one?
Because "We didn't want him anyway" used to be a joke and now is literally considered part of seriously evaluating performance.

I'm not even sure why Murray is a miss. He didn't want to come here obviously and we only want players who want to be here. 0 for 1 just changed to undefeated.

Pack is an elite player, I cannot give actual amounts but Jeremy Werner reported that his guess was between 500,000 and 1,000,000 but potentially more than that.

Pretty impressive (sadly) that this new thread is already up to seven pages w/ no new real information--just more hot takes and panicking.

I'll just say I'd be pretty excited to see Pete Nance in an Illini uniform for one season. He could help ColeHawk quite a bit, I'd imagine: showing him how to expand his game. They seem like pretty damn similar players.

Dan, it might be time for bi hourly threads with some of these takes. Goodness gracious people.

We have a top 10 recruiting class coming in and people are writing off this year. Some off y’all need to go back to the other side of “long time reader first time poster”

Petition to start a new thread now, based on the takes not only failing to improve, but inexplicably getting far worse.
What makes you think starting a new MID-DAY thread will solve any of the increased snarkyness caused by the new daily threads ??

Hostilities are rampant now with just a daily thread ....Going to 2 a days will only exacerbate the emotions........

JMHO , but the tenor of the posts back when it was weekly or monthly new threads was a lot more civil than it is now.......granted , there are new posters causing some flack against the trusted peeps keeping us abreast of what is ACTUALLY happening ..........

Some of the fun of coming here and reading and posting back and forth has dissipated by the notion of being as direct as possible and fanning flames to create disfunction is working ........Guess I need to take a break from here and spend my time with my NL's to keep a smile on my face ......

Patience has been brought up to let things play out as far as the portal ......Some here are NOT wanting any patience to be given and that is very disconcerting to me .......

Time for a gummy and some vaping to regain my happiness.................Hope normalcy might return here eventually ..............I really really do.............
