Worst kept secret. Miller to Miznoz have been talked about since the end of March.
Strange downward spiral for Adam

Freshman - Illinois 24-7 BTT #1 NCAA seed
Sophomore - LSU 22-11 #8 seed - coach fired for NCAA violations
Jr - Missouri 12-21 prior year, new coach

At this rate he could end up at Illinois Chicago Circle for his senior year

I'd have been happy for him to come back to play for us, but I absolutely cannot root for him if he plays for Mizzou. Maybe I will root for him to be the least bad player on the team.
I hate Mizzou, buuuut I also like seeing them get better, always good for the rivalry when both programs are at their best.

Kentucky pays Oscar $2M NIL to return
Miami pays Pack $800k to transfer from KSU

We are never going to throw around money like that.

Is this a serious question? There are a number. I get the don't panic sentiment. But to whitewash the portal misses to date isn't necessary to make your point.
The bottom line is that it's impossible to characterize something as a "portal miss" unless we know there was serious pursuit. If it was basically just the two camps flirting a bit and moving on, I wouldn't call that a miss. We obviously have no way of knowing for sure which cases fit that description, so naturally people make things up.

Blue blood money is and always will be an exception.

That money Pack got is over two years. It’s been suggested that Kofi would’ve and possibly did exceed 400k. And potentially would’ve exceeded 1M. I don’t think Miami is going to outspend us/our alumni.

People may just have to accept that there next year might be a missed Tournament year. These portal guys are 1 or 2 year hired guns for the most part, so it's really not the end of the world compared to hitting on recruits out of High School. But of course, let's see how the Portal actually plays out before making bold proclamations that BU can't hack it or whatever. Lots of names still out there, and of course, many of the ones who aren't "names" will be the ones making big impacts next year.

$2M is a hell of a lot of money. He's also the POTY. I agree, we're unlikely to match that kind of money except in exceptional circumstances (theoretically a player like Ayo coming back), but very, very few schools can or will. For a player like Oscar, its probably worthwhile.
$800k for a transfer from KSU just seems like a bad deal for the school. Look at the top ranked transfers from last year, so few panned out the way they were expected, and a lot of lower ranked guys far outplayed expectations. Oscar T. was not in the top 10, for instance. I'm OK not throwing this kind of money at transfers, in the absence of exceptional circumstances.

What do these deals even mean? Are these dollar amounts guarantees, or based on potential with factors being social media followers, brand sponsorships, t-shirt sales? Or is the school literally just handing these kids money then using their name to make money on top of that?

It sure seems that way. So there is one "portal miss." Out of how many? 0 for 1 isn't exactly bad, especially with the class we have coming in. It's also impossible to evaluate a group of offseason additions and losses until all the dust settles. Who's to say we don't miss on Murray and end up with someone better later who enters the portal late?

Aaaand... that's 1 out of how many "serious pursuits"?
Well, Terrence Shannon Jr. is a lock for Michigan as long as they can clear up the admissions stuff. And Illinois has the same admissions issue as Michigan. And there is a 0 % chance that Michigan does not clear the admissions hurdle and Illinois does. Michigan is a great school, but they bend over backwards for athletes more than even most. I'm pretty certain Michigan will do whatever it needs to with its admissions office to get him on campus (and it helps that TSJ, to his credit, is a good student).

Please tell me who they missed that would have been a good fit? News flash… the players they have eyes on are still available.
Kendrick Davis, Manny Bates, Nigel pack, mark sears, the Mitchell bros, tristen Newton and dumaorio Williams are all nice players who would have helped us. Yes I still think the staff can find help. But to discount all these guys is silly imo.

You're right, but when an "insider" goes so far as to call a recruit a lock, I've got to think there was more than flirting happening.

There is plenty of indication on other players as well.

I mostly try to ignore your posts, but not this time.

WRT to Miller, just stop. He's a really good player. And seems to be a good egg (who got a bum steer). What happened at LSU was out of his control. And for the record, I didn't want him back at Illinois.

But that assumes he's a "serious pursuit." We as fans would love to have him as a player but there have been rumors that his camp is difficult to handle. That could just be an excuse for not landing him but is also absolutely a plausible reason for backing off. We will probably never know the full story.

Therefore, I refuse to get worked up over recruiting/portal misses in most instances. It's less stressful (and more accurate) to evaluate the finished product once the class has been signed.

Of course I'll still follow all of the recruiting and portalling to a nutty degree. I'm just going to try my best not to prematurely jump to conclusions. I learned that the hard way one Cliffmas years ago.

I'm not incorrect, Illinois is going to be one of the least experienced teams in the major conferences as far as the minutes and scoring they are returning from the prior season. Without big portal grabs, that's a clear-cut rebuilding year with a combo of young guys and whatever else is left after the "big grabs" from the portal. It does not mean the "sky" (no pun intended) is falling because they may not be able to snag a Tournament bid next year (would love to be wrong as a bunch of Freshmen/Sophomores overachieve and get us there). I think Illinois is on the right track right now with the recruits they are bringing in out of high school these days. It doesn't mean every season is gonna be a great one. Losing your two best players from the 2020 recruiting class (for various reasons that I don't really "fault" anybody) and just having an unranked BBV to show as the sole remaining representative from the 2019 recruiting class catches up to you.
