If a team is efficient on offense and averages 55 points it would be hard for any team to score 70. The possessions have to be somewhat even.

When someone says: to win a championship, a great offense is more important than a great defense. What they're probably not saying: defense isn't important.

Wait so you are saying that the National Champions have to be good at offense and defense to win? What a crazy idea.

The tournament itself plays defense for you. The pressure, tough shooting environments, officiating. Teams hardly play their typical offense games. But the teams that meet or exceed their typical offense output tend to have better success. Compared to those who muck it up. The tourney itself mucks up games.

But this conversation has dragged on and I don’t wanna take up too much space. My overall point is that I could care less about a transfers defensive abilities when we return 13PPG from a team that was already 30th in offense last season.
Just so we’re all clear, approximately how much less could you care?

Its okay guys we can let everyone score 90 because we'll score 91
Seemed to work for the '88-'89 team. /s

They scored over 100 eight times (four times in conference, including a delicious 118-94 pasting of Iowa), and between 90-100 five times. Barely missed 90 in a 89-73 dismantling of Michigan in Ann arbor on senior day. I recall thinking to myself often that season that they were atypically defensively promiscuous for a Lou Henson squad. Would have loved to see the tempo-free stats on that team.

And while this is true and I agree with everything you say, we are talking about one of the best teams in our and NCAA history. The amount of firepower they had, 2005 had, etc is absurd, and objectively, unsustainable in our history.

The interesting thing is, with where basketball is going these days, with athletic lanky wings and bigs who are good handlers and shooters offensively, those guys can generally guard by default, because of said length and athleticism.

Agreed. I guess I have PTSD from our last three tourney games where we have shot 39% from the field and 23% from three. I’d rather lose scoring 70+ than 53 points. I agree with your points. But given our lack of proven scores on this team. I think it would be foolish to look defense first.
But that is how you get on the floor for BU...
