He's trying to be Draymond Green of college basketball. Trying to stay in the news cycle as long as possible to maximize exposure and NIL opportunities. With the numerous social media outlets and podcasts looking to build their own brand, Hunter will always have an audience.

The new reality is athletes are now each their own individual business.
He's a 2X final 4 participant, 3X NBA champ, 2X Gold Medalist and is worth $50M.

Who in their right mind doesn't want to be Draymond Green!??!

My issue with the open ride - with free portaling, there really isn't much of an incentive for a player to transfer mid-season and sit out until next season. They have to already be a bench warmer (Dainja at Baylor) to feel the incentive to come in for the practices and such. 2nd semester enrollees are pretty meh too. It's tough to go from high school to actively being able to contribute right at the end. Shaedon Sharpe played Kentucky like a fiddle for NIL dollars and went pro anyways.
The past two seasons presented our coaching staff with some interesting in-season options. We were not able to land Mac Etienne when he reclassified because we didn't have a ride. Last season Dainja became available halfway through the season. The fact that we had a scholarship open allowed us to scoop up a guy, who not only will have a significant role for us next season, but has a distinct possibility of starting.
I don't think they are saving one just for the sake of saving one, but there isn't much sense in filling a scholarship just because you have one either. You never know what might develop.

Yup, Good for him.

But none of what you mentioned has anything to do with him or Hunter Dickinson constantly being in the news making controversial comments.

The other thing to consider with open scholarships… in theory only TSJ is a senior on the 2022 team and he still has two years of eligibility. We might need those scholarships for 2023s.

I know, I know, we are bound to have transfers and maybe NBA/guys going pro, but we can dream on this group mostly coming back in 2023

Green has earned the attention by being really good for a really long time. Hunter is not in the same boat and is just whiny.

Here's hoping Ty is a complete Draymond clone.

WingedWarriors

Leesburg, FL
To summarize this week ...

Unless BU feels there are certain instances where RJ or even TSJ can be a second ballhandler, it appears at least for right now he is content with any two of the 4 or potentially 5 freshman (if Stiemke added) to be the primary ballhandlers, mainly Epps and Skyy. What a difference a year makes. Seeking one more front court player (Nance would propel us from 25 to 12 in one analytic poll). Continue to watch the portal and be patient as the NBA declares get weeded out and return to the portal. Perhaps it is there and then that BU will find an upper classman ballhandler that he sees will fit the bill. And finally, it appears that if we ever were interested in Kevin McCullar, he has stated that it will be Kansas or Gonzaga that he is seeking if the NBA draft doesn't pan out.

Honest question I know the myth around here is when kids commit to Illinois they tend to drop in rankings.. But as long as I can remember I can’t recall a kid moving up in the rankings. What’s with that?
I suspect it was our past talent evaluation capabilities and school reputation. A kid on the upswing would go to a school with more cachet. A kid who saw the writing on the wall would accept IL. This staff seems to be doing a much better job in both dimensions. Our HS recruit rankings are all staying steady, if not climbing slightly. The staff was way ahead of the Bass free fall.

It could be that some writers bias their rankings based on the acceptance school. Its hard to believe that they would all consistently have the same bias.

Parkland kids do it regularly for baseball.
My information my be dated. It used to be that Parkland and UIUC had a very tight relationship. UIUC made Parkland students guarantees of transfer if they meet certain conditions.

The same was true for EIU, and some of the other instate colleges.
